Especially considering him turning his head at an exact moment to remain among the Living.
How would the shrapnel that nicked his ear from a shot that missed by a mile have killed him?

Because Trump and Vance are so weird, it rubs off on their supporters in the form of weird defenses for the weird orange turd. It's weird to hear a defense confidently delivered that has no relationship to observed facts.

You can always tell who in the GOP will acquire the RINO label; someone who doesn't immediately come off as weird.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.

One reason the "weird" attack is effective, when so many more substantive criticisms haven't had the same impact, is that conservatives want to be seen as normal. They think their narrow, hierarchical view of society is the norm, and part of the reason they've been spiraling into fanaticism in recent years is that they see that norm slipping away. But they don't fully appreciate how much ground they've lost.

Numerous flaws in the structure of our government overrepresent conservatives and create the illusion that our society is roughly evenly divided between two political factions, but that's not the case. Acceptance of gay marriage is rising, the white and Christian shares of the population are falling, and Democrats have received more votes for president in every election cycle but one in the past 32 years, and more votes for the Senate in every six-year Senate cycle in the past 24. It's considered within the range of normal to be a child of immigrants from two different backgrounds like Kamala Harris. It's considered within the range of normal to be a clean-cut, happily married gay man like Pete Buttegieg.

That's not to say being white or Christian or in a heterosexual marriage is no longer considered normal — far from it. But other types of people have a seat at the table now, and for many conservatives, that in itself is what upsets them. And that anger drives them into pathologies that really are weird, particularly an obsession with policing other people's gender and sexuality. The mushy political middle in this country may not be all that comfortable with abortion or trans people, but they're way less comfortable with schools examining children to make sure their sex matches their gender, or banning abortion even for victims of rape. And nobody likes politicians to tell them how many children they should have.

To add, “Weird” is easily digestible. It’s like “STOP” or “YIELD”. But, for real, damned couches is weird.

I think it could work. It might be able to counter Kamala's awkward laughing that conservatives are pushing:

LOL! Can you imagine the makeup bill the Republicans are going to have to pay between Trump's special orange foundation and J.D. Vance's eye-liner?

Well said.

The shrapnel story was incorrect, the bullet hit his ear according to the FBI and NBC.
