I agree, and what's baffling about it is how so many people are tricked by someone who's so obvious about trying to con them. If someone is dumb enough to believe Trump's boasts (or simply to believe Trump's incompetence is benign), they're dumb enough to call others deranged for not being conned like they've been.

I remember Sean Spicer, Trump's first press secretary, claiming that there is nothing wrong with corruption as long as it is done in the open, with no attempt to hide it. As you intimated, Trump finds nothing wrong with deliberately conning people or being dishonest with them. It is, to him, only an essential part of "the art of the deal." It doesn't even occur to him that there is anything inherently wrong with that, as long as he is the one doing the conning, not the one being conned. That's why he's trying to revoke (or, at least, ignore) all laws against bribery. Can there be anything more antithetical than that to Christ's teachings that evangelical Christians profess to believe in?

I don't believe for a moment that Trump has any kind of sincere belief or faith in any god, especially not the Christian God. He only pretends to believe in order to appeal to the most gullible of Christian believers.

What is so particularly galling is that many of his MAGA sycophants seem to be excusing his dishonesty by saying that at least he is honestly admitting his dishonesty! How much more oxymoronic can one be?
