Re: Does character still matter in politics?
Trump just asked his fans if he should subject Liz Cheney to a military tribunal. Are any Trump fans worried yet?
Remember Republicans and Trump dissing countries they called shitholes? How they moan about looking like a banana republic?
Well, folks, this is exactly how a tinpot dictator in a small country behaves. This is not how the leader of the free world behaves.
If you vote for this man, that is on your conscience. You are helping to drive us right into the kind of situation so-called conservatives claim they fear from Democrats.
Never, once, has any candidate for US president raised such a dangerous idea. And this is not the first dangerous and unacceptable idea Trump has floated. It joins a growing list.
Do not vote for Trump. For the love of God and freedom. Do not put this filth in the White House.

How are you going to handle it if Trump is elected come November? Looks likely at this point. It'll be rough? Or probably not as much as you claim, based on how he acted the last time. Sure, some will be fired, but that happens. Frankly, it'll be like the last Trump administration where the insiders work really hard to sabotage his administration, monthly impeachment hearings, and meanwhile Trump will be boasting about how his policies are the best ever, etc. Perhaps, you need to step back and relax a little?
By the way, here is some of what the democrats have floated since the immunity decision:

How do you feel about this rhetoric?

Re: Does character still matter in politics?
It will not be “how he acted the last time,” and you either know that, and are pretending to be ignorant, or you are not paying attention. The radical right, including its justices on Supreme Court, is teeing up the situation to make sure Trump is not impeded in gutting the executive branch and placing loyalists to do exactly what Trump wants, including “retribution” against those who tried to hold him accountable for his lawless behavior.Democracy is at stake ...............

As for the radical rhetoric on the left, I agree that it is scary. We are going to spiral down the toilet now. We lost the Republic this week. It will be progressively dismantled over the coming years, if Trump wins. There is a very good chance he will, especially since Republicans have been working very hard to line up their cheating.
If Biden wins, the first thing that should be done is court reform. Clearly the radical right wing justices on this court are untethered from the Constitution. Unless there is such reform, the Republic will remain lost.
By the way, there was extreme rhetoric in the American Revolution that resulted in the Republic that Supreme Court just flushed down the toilet.

Dr Exiled. I went to your link and read comments by people complaining that the court decision may make possible various bad actions by a president. These liberals were not saying the bad actions should be done. That is an important difference. It is also important to notice these people were not running for office.Dr Exiled wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 3:50 pmDemocracy is at stake ...............Kishkumen wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 3:27 pmTrump just asked his fans if he should subject Liz Cheney to a military tribunal. I suppose if you dig far enough you might find some person carried away saying the actions should be done. Dig far enough and you can find somebody thinking most anything.

Frustrating. You can reason with a man, and he will unthinkingly say, “I disagree.”
K. Enjoy the evil Supreme Court just unleashed. Funny thing about evil is it tends to turn on the hand that freed it.

Naw. I'm just trying to point out that perhaps you are overreacting to Trump and the potentials the media hypes. I think this is why you use the illogical "everyone knows" reasoning when trying to justify your unreasonable fears of what could happen in a new Trump administration. You realize that there still is a Constitution, and Congress, and the Court that will act as a check on whatever you imagine Trump might do. Sure, your torch may have been put out for the moment. Maybe take a break from commenting for a minute? The Court didn't do like you wanted, like all your friends wanted. Deal with it.Kishkumen wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 4:20 pmExiled has got a whataboutism problem.huckelberry wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 4:16 pmDr Exiled. All the adults from the first term that wouldn’t let Trump do the crazy crap have been canned and/or won’t support him. The next Trump presidency term will basically only have enablers or people with their own racist/homophobic agendas and as long as they are kissing the ring get to further their positions. I can buy it won’t be any worse. Only 4 of his 44 cabinet members endorse him this year.
He has the Supreme Court, currently the House, who knows what the senate will look like.

Ceeboo,
Trump recently highlighted a meme demanding that Liz Cheney face a military tribunal. How should a sensible person take these antics?

Re: Does character still matter in politics?
Exiled, sorry, but you’ve become kind of a tool. Our fears are not unreasonable. Radical right wing judges may have just succeeded in keeping Trump safe from the consequences of his criminal behavior. There is nothing unreasonable in worrying that our Republic is in deep trouble. Congress has been dysfunctional for quite a while. The Supreme Court is dominated by radical right wing justices.Dr Exiled wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 5:54 pmNaw.
