I just got back from Walmart. Not a lot of people inside and was only there to pick up a few things. Anyway, I did notice an abundance of folks wearing masks inside, myself included. People of all ages wearing masks. Kind of heartened to see that. According to our Governor, 72% of our population is vaccinated. I really need to check on that number as to whether or not it's fully vaccinated or vaccinated with one shot. Anyway...that's where it's at out in the sticks.
You might also want to check whether the figure is based on all state residents or only those eligible to receive a vaccine. I've seen it reported both ways which is confusing as hell.

Yeah I noticed that he made a recent statement but I didn't watch the video yet. I still follow the stats nearly every day of my life and I don't see that it looks like 72% vaccinated. I'm check on that for sure.

I DO see that national vaccines are making enormous strides. More than half a million every day...not enough to get us where we need to be WHEN we need to be, but I haven't seen numbers so high as they are right now on a national level. I'm guessing that's a combination--hesitants, employees, folks who just haven't gotten vaccinated yet, plus younger folks. The rise in vaccinations is noticeable though.

Jersey Girl, that’s great news.
So here's what I've got directly from the governor's mouth. I love this man and how he handles things in such a matter of fact way. So happy I voted for him even when I was a still a registered Republican. The man is a breath of fresh air.

He says that 70+ % of all eligible person in the state have been vaccinated. He made no distinction between 1st or 2nd shot. He says hospitalizations are up, it's a good idea to wear a mask (that's how he said it) when indoors around a bunch of people. He says we're trying to reach for the next goal which is 80% vaccinated. Noted that we can expect that this (D-variant infections) is going to to get worse before it gets better. Went over all the digital access options we have around the state including outreach.

He wants the FDA to keep up with the speed of the pandemic and approve 3rd doses.

Here are our numbers.

State Pop: 5.759 M

1st shot: 3,499,965 M
2nd shot: 2,919,528 M

I'm not disappointed. Feeling optimistic. Still and all, I'm once again masking up on account of the Delta Variant. It seems like the smart thing to do for a variety of reasons and the governor also did not disappoint when he listed all the reasons that I was already operating on.

The Kaiser Family Foundation released a survey Wednesday that found there was a big split between unvaccinated and vaccinated adults in what they perceived as the bigger threat during the pandemic.

Just over half of unvaccinated adults (53 percent) said they believed getting vaccinated posed a bigger risk to their health than getting infected with the coronavirus. “In contrast, an overwhelming majority (88 percent) of vaccinated adults said that getting infected with COVID-19 is a bigger risk to their health than the vaccine,” the report found.

Unvaccinated adults were also much less worried about the more transmissible delta variant and had less confidence in the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines compared with those who got the shots, according to the KFF survey.

The majority of unvaccinated adults (57 percent) also said they thought the news media had “generally exaggerated” the seriousness of the pandemic, compared with 17 percent of vaccinated adults.

canpakes that just shows you how divided we are as a nation. What stands out to me is the last statement as follows:

The majority of unvaccinated adults (57 percent) also said they thought the news media had “generally exaggerated” the seriousness of the pandemic, compared with 17 percent of vaccinated adults.

This is not much different than what I see in the comments locally. People commenting on the media and also what politicians are saying when the trackers and studies are easily accessible online if only they could manage to peel themselves away from Instagram long enough to locate it. Why does everyone count on the media or politicians to drop everything into their hands?

This ain't DoorDash. You have to actually go after the information yourself. Does no one in this country know what a primary source is?

Breaking News: The media isn't a primary source.

Nice to get some rest after a long night of scrubbing up and banging out surgeries for the local hospital I moonlight at. Turns out, at this hospital, the Covid situation is exactly like mainstream media presents it.
ABC wrote:Of the 271 total COVID patients in the surveyed ICUs, 255 patients, or approximately 94%, were unvaccinated against COVID-19 in ABC News' snapshot in time.

Further, of the 16 vaccinated individuals receiving care in the ICU, almost all suffered from comorbidities and other health problems, such as cancer or weakened immune systems. ABC News only heard of one otherwise healthy and fully vaccinated individual, with no reported underlying conditions, who was in the ICU.
If somebody has anecdotal data that suggest vaccinated and unvaccinated are equally represented and suffering equally in hospitals, then they ought to ask themselves why anybody would believe it since people can say whatever they want on the Internet?

If things go well, then one day, I do expect to see the tables turn at the hospital and the number of vaccinated with Covid to be a greater percentage than unvaccinated.
Social distancing has likely already begun to flatten the curve...Continue to research good antivirals and vaccine candidates. Make everyone wear masks. -- J.D. Vance

Things are getting tougher In Mississippi…
Leaders at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) said they are seeing more and more people under the age of 50 and children being hospitalized after contracting the virus.

The rise in new cases is putting a strain on health systems in Mississippi, with officials stating on Wednesday that there were only six ICU beds available throughout the state, reported WJTV.

"We are at this moment over capacity," Dr. LouAnn Woodward, UMMC's COVID-19 incident commander, said during a press conference.
