I think this is likely to replace "nuts" as expression of "never surrender"
"Russian Warship, Go **** Yourself."

Cue Peter Garrett, who, I would think, is someone you would like quite a bit.

Ajax - from your signature line I would guess that you sympathise with the bravery and determination with which Ukrainians are resisting the Russian attack on their country.

Am I right about that?

A very brave lady:

A woman is being hailed on social media after she confronted a heavily armed Russian soldier and offered him sunflower seeds – so that flowers would grow if he died there on Ukraine’s soil. 'You’re occupants, you’re fascists,' she shouts, standing about a metre from the soldier.

'Take these seeds and put them in your pockets so at least sunflowers will grow when you all lie down here'

These people are doing the things that some Americans talk about (a lot). Risking their lives for liberty.

So, Ajax- are you on her side?

Here is a link to the recorded conversation between the Russian warship and the officer commanding the Ukrainian border guards on Snake Island, who answered the invader's summons to surrender with the immortal words "Go f**k yourself".

https://youtu.be/6Y2iVHUMZhg

I am not much of a romantic about such matters, but it does remind me of the reply of the 300 Spartans barring the way to the huge invading Persian army at Thermopylae in 480 BC, where a small but determined force could block the narrow road between the mountains and the sea that led into the central Greek mainland.

Persians: "Lay down your arms."

Spartains: "Come and get them."

... at least that is the response recorded by the ancient historian Herodotus. I suspect, however that it might have been something just a little ruder. Anyway, they all died fighting, like the Ukrainian border guards, who also deserve a place in our memories.
I am a romnatic about wars. It reminds me of Leofric telling the Saxon army, "This is our Land, our Wessex, our England. And we shall murder any heathen bastard who tries to take it."

They don't make Englishmen like they used to.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Ukraine soldiers told Russian officer ‘go “F” yourself’ before they died on island
Thirteen border guards died in air and sea bombardment on Snake Island in Black Sea after refusing to surrender

Guardian 25 February

If all Ukrainian forces are resisting like this, it is no surprise that intelligence reports are telling us that Russian forces failed to attain the objectives they had planned to reach yesterday.
Ukrainian soldiers who died defending an island in the Black Sea from an air and sea bombardment reportedly told an officer on board a Russian navy warship to “go f**k yourself” when asked to surrender.

There were 13 border guards stationed on Snake Island, a roughly 16-hectare (40-acre) rocky island owned by Ukraine that sits about 186 miles (300km) west of Crimea, when Russian troops bombed the island on Thursday.

All 13 soldiers died after refusing to surrender, Ukrainian officials announced.

In his address after the first day of the invasion of his country, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced he would posthumously award all of the soldiers the Hero of Ukraine award.

“All border guards died heroically but did not give up,” Zelenskiy said.

Audio has emerged that is purported to have captured an exchange between Ukrainian border guards on Snake Island and an approaching Russian navy vessel, in which a Russian officer told the Ukrainian forces on the island to “lay down your weapons”.

“This is a military warship. This is a Russian military warship. I suggest you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid bloodshed and needless casualties. Otherwise, you will be bombed,” the Russian office was recorded as saying on a naval radio channel.

After a short period of silence in the recording, a Ukrainian officer reportedly responded: “Russian warship, go f**k yourself.”

The audio has been published by multiple media outlets including the Ukrainian online newspaper Ukrayinska Pravda, and was shared on social media by Anton Herashchenko, an adviser to the Ukrainian interior ministry.
Yes! I saw this last night! Brave and courageous people!

Yeah, listen. I am not at all surprised by the actions of that woman. I don't know if it's the culture or what, but the Boy over here is half Ukrainian and I could see him or any of his older relatives (now deceased) doing what she did or do what the people defending Snake Island did.

In other news, I read that Ukraine is one of the world's largest producers of sunflower seeds and oils. Haven't fact checked that, but it makes sense in light of the above report.

You, ldsfaqs, and a slew of other right-wingers who wouldn't stand a chance on the battlefield, nor enjoy it at all. Yet, because of these romantic notions, you throw in with ideologues and grifters who slowly nudge you in that direction, for no good reason. Give being a romantic about peace a chance, Ajax. There are far better opportunities for you in a peaceful world -- and you live in more or less a peaceful world -- you just need to learn to be grateful and find things you like about life that don't involve hating an enemy. If you can't do that, then what is the battlefield for anyway? Imagine Donald Trump returns to the Whitehouse next week like your QAnon brothers believe, and begins a new era of US expansionism. Once the expansionism is done, then what? Are you teaching your children how to be happy in the world that you and the great General Trump will secure for them one day?

Um, that's just a story, Ajax. How do you feel about the real Ukrainians resisting the real Russian invaders?

The US isn't making optometrists like it used to, it seems.

Inspired. These Ukranians died for it. The words of the Ukranian reporter on Laura Ingraham last nigjt were the samw, "This is our land."
And they were willing to fight even if they knew they were going to lose. Even just a chance at freedom was worth it.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Trump supporters are standing with Russia over this invasion of Ukraine. Said Russian computer program Bungy, "We look forward to the fall of Western Europe and the United States. We look forward to Donald Trumpski as the new Kommisar of the America Oblast and Russell Nelsonovich as Patriarch of Utah Autonomous Region." The name might be changing because Patriarch Nelsonovich has declared the name Utah to be non-Slavic.
