First try for me today as well. I had it immediately but almost second guessed myself. I knew it was a split landmass country but seeing it devoid of context really threw my brain off.

June 4: I don't want to talk about it.
(I did eventually get it, but only after the capital city was revealed.)

No, but I've always been fascinated by maps and globes. It also helped that I got heavily into a computer game called "Hearts of Iron." It's based on World War II, so many of the territories and countries are different from what exist today, but it's nevertheless a crash course in geography whether you want it to be or not.honorentheos wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 12:41 pmWas geography your favorite subject in school?Dr. Shades wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 8:10 amSaturday, June 04: Again, I got it on my very first “guess.” Without consulting a map or a globe, I might add.

I was in the right region with my first guess but the shape was baffling out of the gate. When it showed the size was about the size of D_______ I gave up and consulted a map since the names of every country I could think of in that area were precluded by the clue. Much like with the Netherlands, I find certain features really throw me off. I should learn from that now I hope.Bret Ripley wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 5:32 pmJune 5:

Ah. I knew/Facebook still know a guy who was into playing various starting conditions. I should see if he would be into a map game.Dr. Shades wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 1:04 pmNo, but I've always been fascinated by maps and globes. I knew I was lost from the get-go and only got it on my 5th guess with the help of Google Earth. I am kicking myself a little bit, because only two or three years ago I did some reading about that colorful character James Brooke, 1st Rajah of Sarawak, whose history was very much intertwined with that of this nation.honorentheos wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 5:58 pmI was in the right region with my first guess but the shape was baffling out of the gate. I won't lie, I was only able to pull this one out because the bordering country was so recent. When that happened I spent a little time studying the area and when on a little rabbit hole to find out why the islands were carved up the way they were.
Had this come a week or two early I'd have had no idea (perhaps even a week later when new trivia pushed it out).

Today's was interesting. The flag wasn't familiar but the shield on it made it seem like it came from a certain part of the world to me. My first guess was less than 300 miles from the answer. But then I guessed wrong twice before getting it on my fourth.
