Good Twitter summary of where we are and what we need to do. https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1329 ... 67008.html

It's always felt to me like Trump wanted people to die. Now it feels like he really wants to ramp up the death toll because America was mean to him and voted him out of office.

If we had to have such a damned baby in the White House, why not baby Yoda instead?

Which is 1.6 times the infection rate and more than 4.4 times the fatality rate in my own county in California. It may not be justification for panic, but your community is definitely doing worse than mine, and probably worse than average. It certainly is more than adequate justification for following the guidelines for slowing the spread of the disease.
which sounds great until one realizes that your hair is on fire.
keyword-
0.0006 fatality.
compare to
your odds of committing suicide = 0.01
your odds of dying from any injury = 0.04
your odds of dying from just walking = 0.001
your odds of being murdered = 0.004
yes,
Happy Thanksgiving.
So, 49 people have died from COVID in your county since March. So you're saying more than 800 people in that same county have killed themselves over the past eight months?

Again, you have to be the worst [real-life information deleted] on the planet to be this bad at math.

Apparently, not even Republican calculators tell the truth.

I just did the math on the latest numbers:

243,731 deaths / 11,067,529 cases = 0.0220221...

So if we round it off, we're talking about a 2.2% death rate so far in the US. That doesn't account for the unattributed COVID deaths.

So if we're fine with letting a little more than 1 in 50 people die, we should all go get Denny's. Restaurants and bars and gyms it is! Seems totally worth it (assuming you have the mental acuity of a Trump supporter).

It is actually worse than that because you're including the total number of cases instead of only those cases which had an outcome.

https://www.worldometers.information/coronavirus/country/us/

7,423,250 COVID patients have had an outcome. 7,166,996 (96.5%) recovered while 256,254 have died which is a mortality of 3.5%.

That's 1 in 28 people or 12 million Americans dead

Yeah, great point. I was actually kind of surprised the number I calculated was as low as it was, and figured it was getting better as medical personnel were learning to treat the disease better.

Well, we also have to consider that the official death count is likely 10-20% higher in reality. Our worst time with COVID was during the early months when there wasn't enough testing to determine who had it, let alone who died from it.

Well, they did have to live near subs. That could explain things.

That is the thing I didn't forget (what I meant by "unattributed COVID deaths"). And that also doesn't account for deaths that happen because hospitals are at capacity. I'm sure there are plenty of heart attacks and strokes killing because of slow response times.
