Lol you guys are mad. LMPO. You just need a new battery mon. You should have gone to a garage and bought one. Garages are open 24/7. Taking others off the wall wont help. Gaz they aren't CO detectors. They don't beep. Did you think to reset your fuse at the power supply?

A smoke detector detects smoke, a fire alarm is the part that goes wooowoowoowoowoowoowoo. The beeping is a warning that your batteries need replacing. They are connected to send them all off, but they are not all connected for power. Taking them all off wouldn't make a difference. it would most likely cause the ones you take off to beep. You should put them all back on. And switch a battery from the furthest detector with the one beeping. It just means you need to replace the battery. If that doesn't help, you could go get a battery or earplugs. Good luck.

Do you have ADT or some other alarm system?
Mine did that a few weeks ago, we have both fire and house alarms through them. The alarm kept beeping, and ADT kept calling my mom's cell....but because our alarms are attached to the phone lines, the phone was busy each time I picked it up. Scared the hell out of me at first. Took the whole weekend with them calling us at 2am because of the malfunction for them to figure it out.

Oh, so where were you when this crisis was goin' on, eh? ;-) I think I can answer to the running out to get a new battery. If her kids were home and asleep, she couldn't run out and leave them unattended.
I'll be interested to find out how this all turned out!

Lol. I was probably asleep. I guess she couldn't leave her children. Ear plugs it is then :)
I too would be interested to know how it turned out.

Moksha and Pirate, yah, I thought just inserting a new battery was the answer -- yet, I didn't know where any others were and my children had been asleep. Of course they did wake up during the commotion. The only store about here that is open 24 hrs is Wal-Mart and I'd rather be in beeping hell then go to Wal-Mart at 11 pm at night with my children. :)
I also don't understand what the point of the electrical current is if I have to replace batteries. I'll go ahead and replace all the batteries today and just reinstall the old ones rather than buying new ones. I can't imagine there's anything wrong with the old ones? I think, perhaps, when I took that one out it somehow set off the other ones? I'm not certain, exactly, what happened.
Gaz, thanks for your help. I think I can just reinstall them. I wasn't turning on many lights last night and this morning looked and it seems I can just plug them back in (there's some sort of plug that is attached to the wires in the ceiling that connects to the detector) and twist them back into place.
GIMR, I do use ADT, yet, received no phone call from them. Of course the detectors didn't exactly go into full alarm mode -- they just were BEEPING -- as if a very angry lil bird screeching at me!

Did your alarms come as part of your security system? Is that one still beeping? Our beeping one was just outside our bedroom door, too. My mom is paranoid, and we have a box in the wall that ADT talks to us through in case of emergency, code words and everything. Like they won't bring mom back if they kidnap her. I told her they would.
When our started beeping, it sounded just like the warning signal that we have when we first enter the house, that 40 seconds before the alarm goes off that you have to get in and disarm the thing. I thought sure I'd set it to go off in bezerk mode if any door or window was opened.
LOL, I don't like the crowds at Wal-mart, period. It's nice when it's quiet, but when you have 80 bazillion people in there blocking your way, half-running you over with the electric scooters you can rent, and kids with those wheels on the bottom of their shoes just asking for their parents to sue Wal-mart when said kid busts their ass, it's a bit difficult.

I don't even know if the smoke detectors are hooked up to the alarm system. I should check on that. When I restored my house we had to completely redo the electrical (the original 1910 electrical wiring was STILL in the home) and the electricians installed the detectors. Later we had ADT come out and do an alarm system. I dealt with electrical and my husband had dealt with the alarm company. I'll give them a call today, 'cause quite frankly I just don't know.

Well, it wasn't like that at all. It was just coming from one detector (before I yanked it out of the ceiling) and it was beeping with just one loud screech every few minutes.

I despise going to Wal-Mart. It's actually put a lot of stores out of business here. It's always so crowded and it's unfortunate that I have to go there to get necessities. I actually LOVE Dollar General -- and would rather go there any day than Wal-Mart. They have such good buys on the lil house necessities I need.
