I thought a miss was that self-deprecating humor works the best in stand-up and comedy skits. That was the obvious difference between examples he gave of conservative humor that worked vs. the newer American stuff that doesn't.
I want to say that he mentioned that at one point (but there wasn't a lot of emphasis on it - I agree there could have been more). I believe it was when he was showing old clips of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. In fact, I remember him saying that Foxworthy's whole act was making fun of rednecks, and he identifies as a redneck.

I was a huge fan of Dennis Miller during the 90's. I used to record his HBO shows that came out every week and he'd do "the news" like he did on SNL and I laughed out loud every time. He was somewhat political at the time but never extreme in either direction. He'd mock Clinton in one breath and then Bob Doyle or Newt Gingrich in the next.

But after 9-11 he gradually became more and more hyper partisan to the Right. So much so that he was a regular guest on the O'Reilly Factor and had his own segment called "Miller Time" where he'd go off on Democrats. Sad.
