two right-wing friends from the AM ventures have Covid. Seem to be doing pretty well considering age and health, both have full vax plus booster.
I’m glad to read your friends are vaccinated. Their health outlook is greatly bolstered by making competent decisions. A somewhat tangentially related comment by gemli underscores the difficulty they faced making a common sense decision:
Facebook is evil because it provides a forum that allows the clueless to bolster each other's conspiracy theories. Zuckerberg created it originally as a shaming device to allow his male college classmates to comment on the attractiveness of female students. It's living up to its potential.
Nearly half the country lives in a fantasy world that thinks blue Jewish space lasers started forest fires, that the deadly Capitol riot was just high-spirited patriots paying their respects by smashing windows and defecating on Nancy Pelosi's desk and that vaccines are full of electronic tracking chips. How foolish can people be before it requires medical intervention?
In the California county in which I live (one of California's red counties), the differences between vaccinated and un-vaccinated are not quite as pronounced. According to our county's covid dashboard, 59% of the population are fully vaccinated (disappointingly low, compared to the national average of 62.6% and the California average of 67%). There were 260 new cases reported yesterday, only 44.4% of which were unvaccinated. Of the cumulative total of covid patients who have been hospitalized, 89.4% were unvaccinated, but of the 31 people currently still hospitalized (9 in ICU), only 50% are unvaccinated.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

If these studies are correct, vaccines aren't very effective against Omicron infection unless you've had a booster shot, so that case number wouldn't be unexpected for vaxxed people (many of whom presumably aren't boosted yet):

I don't argue with the above. Unfortunately our county dashboard (as far as I can tell) doesn't seem to distinguish between merely fully vaccinated (two shots) and vaccinated and boosted, so I can't say how many of the cases were both fully vaccinated and boosted. As for me and my immediate family, we are all fully vaccinated and boosted.

The second link mentions the Danish study which put vaccine effectiveness against infection at ~35-40%. I mentioned that report about a week ago on a Reddit thread and the antivaxxers were thinking it was a ‘gotcha’ moment, when in reality they didn’t understand that their chances against hospitalization, an ICU visit, ventilation, serious injury, and death decreased significantly even if infection occurs. I got downtooted since the subreddit I was on has recently taken a sharp turn to the Right.
Cinepro, what’s your opinion with regard to vaccination and the above-mentioned outcomes?
