Thanks, Morley. I'll need to read up on it again. I'm sure since's he's now a possible V.P that his life is going to be examined closely.Morley wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 12:24 pmBold mine.yellowstone123 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 11:50 am
I hope I'm reading it right. Apparently he's brilliant which is my conclusion. Educated at an Ivy League School. Lawyer. He who could be spitting tobacco and shooting road signs, but wrote a best selling book. Married, father of three. Reared by his grandparents. He was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Hindu. First time Senator. So was Obama. He's from a key state, Ohio, that people say is really needed for the election. Seems to be open to new information. Not afraid to speak his mind which means he may say somethings that Trump doesn't want to hear but needs to.
How will he appear to mid to upper class ladies of Arizona? not sure but we shall see. But from what I heard a few years ago you can predict who is going to win the Presidential election - at least in the foreseeable on how they vote.
Roman Catholic, I think.
edit: Maybe you're thnking of his spouse.

Morley is right that it is his wife who is Hindu, not him. In any case, I wanted to think that maybe Ron DeSantis would be too smart and too principled to go down the Trump path so far, and yet look at what he has done in Florida. Highly restrictive abortion law. Anti-woke law. Gleeful dismantling of higher education. And this guy, too, is a veteran and a bearer of an Ivy-League law degree.yellowstone123 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 11:50 amI hope I'm reading it right. Apparently he's brilliant which is my conclusion. So, none of this stuff that you mention about Vance is any proof against MAGA nightmare politics. When push comes to shove, however, will they moderate? That is my question. Obviously DeSantis was trying to become president and had to compete with DJT in MAGAness in order to do so. J.D. Vance has to play MAGA in order to ride DJT's coat tails. But, will they pivot after a while, or moderate on certain issues, in such a way that it shows their behavior is strategic? That they really don't want to see the most radical aspects of MAGA and right-wing fever dreams realized?
That is my question. With both men, I have some hope that they are strong enough to withstand Trump's demands to violate the Constitution in the way that Pence was. They will have to fall on their political sword to do so, but they would go down in history on the right side of Constitutional government. We'll see.

Your hypothetical about a consitition violation is darling and super scary. I am so scared. Did you say anything else?

Identity followed by cheap silliness. Your stock is quickly dropping. Not that it was very high to begin with.

It should. I am not the right guy to address hypotheticals, presuppositions and stereotypes as if they are substantive and factual. If you are looking for that, buy another guy and sell me short.

I am sorry. You seem to be talking to someone else. Or you need medical attention. Please, get help, one way or the other.

I’m thinking the RNC is trending away from white nationalism to populism.

Re: Trump-Vance 2024
Interesting, DocCam. Compromise is not on many people's menus. That problem has put us here, and it is making it increasingly difficult to do any kind of healthy politics, which require compromise. Mutual hatred, mutual disdain, refusal to compromise, compromise characterized as a conspiracy, or a uniparty: all of these things make the entire country less healthy, less stable, more fragmented, and easier for extremists to manipulate.
