Trump declaring that the Republic would be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire came as no great surprise.

Welp. In four years *I* probably won't be here so I don't really care. You might say I've reached total f-it stage. And if you did say that, you'd be exactly right.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 9:15 amIn four years time there won’t be a vote. It’ll be either a continuation of Trump, or a seamless transition of power to another within the Trump dynasty. America is now operating under the North Korean system of governance. Albeit with a white supremacist, fascist, underpinning. The Gulf Of America ffs <facepalm>

Didn't watch it yesterday due to going back to sleep and sleeping until it was almost over. I'm watching it today in intervals.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 10:10 amHello All,
Long time since I've started a thread around here. Thought I'd take a crack at this topic. Don't criticize the topic it's the best I can do right now. I'm trying to survive over here. So what are you planning to do on Monday's Inauguration Day? You watching or not?
In keeping with my alleged and intentional detox from all things politics, the fact that we'll be on the tail end of a 4 day sub zero snow storm over here, and my total lack of interest, I will not be watching. That doesn't mean I won't catch parts because I know good and well it'll be on the main television here. Like all day, all night, Marianne*.
I did watch a video that Gunnar posted recently so I'm lying through my teeth here. Think it was Brian Tyler Cohen? But anyway, what are your plans? Do you care? Not care? Will you watch out of a sense of patriotism, historical interest, or support for the incoming? I mean, coming in again, President?
For me, my total lack of interest has to do with the fact that this will probably be the last inauguration day of my life and since I'm disgusted with everything about it, I'm choosing to play ostrich and pretend that it's not even happening. I'll probably spend the day crafting and reading my new Pacino book. I dunno, maybe clean something or repot my plants and praying the power stays on.
So that's my story.
What's your story?
Yours truly,
The other flightless bird
*If you don't know what that is you are not my people. Leave me alone. Get away from me.
You asked:
- Do you care? Not care? Yes, I care. I am an American citizen and it is my privilege to be a citizen of this great nation. Unfortunately, we tend to take our U.S. citizenship for granted.
- Will you watch out of a sense of patriotism" Yes
- Historical interest? Yes
- Support for the incoming? Yes

Really? North Korean? Isn't that stretching it a bit?I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 9:15 amIn four years time there won’t be a vote. Maybe in 4 years we can rewind that fabulous bean footage (borrowed from the Bush's Beans commercial) to see how it turned out. Not sure what difference it makes about the name of The Gulf of Mexico. Maybe the Gulf of North America, but not sure what difference it would make one way or the other.

Even if he were to succeed in overcoming elections next time that is not the end of democracy. It would be an interruption of democracy, an idea and expectation which certainly will not die.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 9:34 amI might be wrong. But the early signs aren’t encouraging. And he certainly attempted it last time.Dr. Shades wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 9:29 amThat's what everyone said the last time, and it didn't happen.

It might make a difference to people in Mexico. And it should at the very least give you an insight into Trump's thinking - namely that he believes he can do whatever he wants, anywhere. There was a bloke in Austria in the 1930's that thought similar.msnobody wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 7:11 pmReally? North Korean? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1938_chan ... st_PrussiaOn 16 July 1938, more than 1500 place names in East Prussia were changed, following a decree issued by Gauleiter and Oberpräsident Erich Koch and initiated by Adolf Hitler.[1] Most of the names affected were of Old Prussian, Lithuanian and Polish origin; they were either eliminated, Germanized, or simplified. Similar geographical renaming also took place in other parts of Nazi Germany.
