Like most people we had to modify one of our normal traditions which is getting together with neighbors to share left over pies and the like this year. But we did take some time to reach out to one another to chat. One of our neighbors' adult son is a nurse and she had quite the stories to share that are disheartening. Nothing one doesn't hear in the news but it hits a little closer when someone you know is sharing an experience of family being in denial their mother is dying of Covid and accusing the hospital of making it up so they could claim more money. Apparently she passed away Friday. Stories of people being put in comfort care because there aren't reasonable expectations they will live and beds/staff resources are thin. Nurses sharing gallows humor jokes about one of them unluckily catching Covid right before a vaccine is available being akin to a soldier getting shot hours before an armistice is signed. You know. 1st world problems.
