Nope. But when a pie fight breaks out in a thread, it's hard to keep up with you guys blow by blow and apply a consistent standard.

As the OP, I look to you for the scope. Not just the title, not just the OP, but what you post throughout the thread. If someone injects a potentially derailing issue into the thread, and you choose to respond to it substantively, you've broadened the topic.

If you want a focussed discussion on a narrow topic, I have some suggestions.

1. Use SSP. That's what it's there for.

2. Choose a narrow title. "Guns in America" is an extremely broad title. I suspect most of the posts that you would classify as trolling actually are about "Guns in America."

3. If it's your thread and someone posts something you think is off topic, don't engage with the post. If the post leads others off on a tangent, report as a derail. If you engage, the message you are communicating to us is that you, as the thread starter, consider the post to be within the topic.

When I get a block of time, I intend to go back through the thread and act on the many reports of personal attacks and/or derails.

How bout no baby proof outlet covers in a house with an infant? How bout medications in a medicine cabinet with no lock?
