We don't have Wal-Mart. I think Morrisons is owned by them though, or maybe that is ASDA. I know Safeway was, but Safeway's have gone now.

Dollar General rocks, and if there was one nearby here I'd be getting all my household stuff and toiletries from there. When I lived with my dad, we had so little money (dad refused to work, sometimes we didn't even have toilet paper, let alone food), and DG's products made me feel halfway normal. I was able to get some nice bedspreads and decorative things for my room for very little money.

Wal-mart was 17 miles away. That was a field trip. Back then I put on makeup to go to Wal-mart. (Hick, I was...)

The batteries operate as a backup for the electrical hookup. Without that backup, if a fire were to damage the electrical system, the alarm wouldn't work. The detector tells you to replace the batteries as they die so that you're not caught with no detector. Yes, it's annoying, but it's meant to protect you and your family.

That makes perfect sense! The batteries will operate if the electrical goes out and the electrical is somehow hooked up so if one alarms they all do. Thanks, skippy.

I'm not sure if they'll all beep if the battery goes out in one - in my house, at least, if one battery goes out it seems that the other ones fail at around the same time since they're all about the same age. So stock up on those 9v batteries, and replace all of them together (once you stick 'em back up on the wall). :o)

And just be glad that you don't have one 15 feet up. I hate having to change that one!

I replaced all the batteries, reinstalled the detectors, bought extra batteries for the change in 6 months and all seems well!

Skippy, I couldn't do a 15 ft. high one -- I have pretty tall ceilings, thank god not that tall!

Thanks ya'll -- I suppose I'm just really isolated that I had no one else to tell this to last night. :)
