I reviewed the video (the complete video I submitted) again and Vance didn't admit to lying. To the contrary, he said he was creating focus on the story, relying on what residents there had told him. He didn't admit to lying about anything. It cannot count as a confession and that was the entire point of the slanted story, that he confessed to lying. At this point, one simply cannot say the Guardian headline and accompanying story is correct. Also, there is a reason the entire video wasn't cited or linked to. They are taking sides, just like Fox does, just like MSNBC does and this is why people don't trust the corporate media.

After the money quote mentioned in the Guardian article cited hereinabove, Vance says he "created" the story meaning that he is creating the media focus on it, not that he makes stuff up to get attention.

Your comment about Buttigieg was about as wrong as could be. You clearly assumed the OP and the video with Buttigieg were of a kind without actually knowing what Buttigieg said, resulting in another conspiracy brain anti-establishment misrepresentation. Watch the video (the Buttigieg video).

Ah, I see. You were mashing up Buttigieg's x post with the most radical interpretation of the claim rather than the video and the claim.

You realize that Buttigieg's point that Vance chose to lie to manipulate the media and distract from discussion of Trump's record as president is not a manipulation of Vance's statement, right? That while you may know folks who present it like Vance admits to fabricating the story, the article clearly states he pushed it with intention to manipulate.

If it's legitimate to push the dubious story about Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield without checking hard to see whether it was true, then it must be legitimate to push the dubious story of Vance having sex with sofas without checking to see whether it was true.

If the justification for pushing the pet-eating story was that it focused attention on an issue of real concern to real voters, then that justification also applies to the sofa-sex story. Perhaps real voters are really concerned that new immigrants may be causing them problems by doing desperate things. Real voters are also really concerned that the Republican candidate for Vice President may be hypocritical and weird. The sofa-sex story focuses attention on that genuine and legitimate issue, whether or not it is true. So if issue-focusing justifies spreading a story regardless of truth, then Vance can't complain about sofa-sex innuendos. They're just focusing attention on a legitimate issue.

The difference remains that in Vance's pet-eating story it's a lot of poor Haitian immigrants who are getting smeared by a ridiculous story that nobody properly checked, while in the sofa-sex story it's only one candidate for public office being libeled. As a candidate he has to accept criticism and scrutiny, even satire and mockery. He's supposed to have thick skin for that kind of thing, and stick up for himself. He's not supposed to punch down at a lot of hard-working people who can't defend themselves.

Vance's lie about Springfield ended up being harmful to Springfield and the State of Ohio, even if it helped Trump and the MAGAfascist movement by demonizing immigrants.
