Also in case I haven't said it yet, thank goodness for Pence's principled stance.
Yeah, Pence is a really interesting character in all of this, and since I've been critical of Pence over the years, I need to also acknowledge and compliment his refusal to go along with the conspiracy to remain in power (again). That was a really brave thing for him to do in those moments, given the pressures from those closest to him to break the law, and the mood of the party at the time. That puts him in a different category of Republican. Principled when really important.
Those guys are out there, and I'm willing to bet there are several GOP politicians that wish Trump loses this election but aren't willing to risk their GOP/Trump cred by saying so. They somehow imagine that when Trump goes away, the GOP will become "normal" again. I think they're ignoring the deep rot in their own party and deluding themselves if they think the party can be like Reagan's again, or even conservative, but how else would they be justifying their silence? Of course, I'm speculating, but it seems to me a reasonable thing to assume of your Nikki Haleys and Mitt Romneys.
Regardless, Pence deserves non-qualified credit for that day. He stood up for the Constitution and therefore, the country. He's a patriot.
