Please, for the love of God, NOOOOOOOooooooo! One thing that drives me up a wall reading online posts is people who believe that using ellipsis a lot somehow softens their post and makes it more cuddly and nice. It doesn't, and it just looks like crap. And it gives the impression of one's not being able to actually complete a sentence. Arg, I hate it!

I hate it, too, but since Garden Girl has succeeded at making the impression of a nice person, and I routinely get told I'm an arrogant asshole, ellipsis must be working on some people...

Zoidberg, I've had dealings with a few of the posters I named earlier in this thread via private messages. I based my assertions of them being 'caring' on those personal experiences.

As I read the thread I was reminded of my own dealings with said posters - it wasn't anything I read in that thread or their style of writing that brought about that conclusion.

It's been my experience that posters are a bit gentler off the boards. With a few exceptions.

Yet, to ensure there's no questioning as to whether I'm 'nice'......

Wow, I definitely missed that. I wonder what set him off like that.

I don't know. He started some threads asking to have his account banned (I don't know why he didn't ask via PM, as I understand the mods have honored other's requests via PM to delete accounts). Then, it just spiraled. Last, he was posting in every thread:

My mouse-clicking hand is tired from deleting all of them.

I really do hope he gets some help, as this isn't rational behavior. Somethings wrong, and I hope it doesn't go too far.

Wow, that's like way beyond Ray-Cogginsland. Something must indeed be wrong. I hope he comes back here so we can at least know if he's OK.

Edit: I just saw that Momus opened a pinned thread on "Why Nephi Is a Child" asking for posters to mock Nephi. Unbelievable.

I doubt Nephi will be coming back here, though he could eventually prove me wrong. Universalists are never popular with dogmatic believers, Mormon, Non-Mormon, or ex-Mormon. I think he was looking for acceptance, and he didn't find it here, or on MADB. I don't think he can pursue his journey in any atmosphere which demands acceptance of the dominant paradigm. His thinking is too complex to squeeze into pigeonholes.

Nephi was here earlier this morning. I hope he's okay. Obviously, like KA stated, he is having some issues. Ridiculing him in that manner by board wide mocking is not appropriate. Seems very MDBish.

As you say. I know I'm nicer in real life, or else people are too terrified of me to tell me what an ass I really am... (okay, this is the last time, Sethbag:)

I can't believe MAD has stooped to such behavior. Oh, wait, I can. What I should have done to stay there for longer than a month is to make a big deal about how I want to leave so I could stay and amuse myself a bit longer. The mods knew I wanted to stay there and I told them privately that I will leave if they PM me. So, of course, instead of honoring my request, they publicly banned me the next day.

And they call Nephi a child! (ROFL)

It looks like all the cussing and posting porn was his attemt to get himself banned since they won't honor his request to close his account. And you probably knew that, Steuss, but chose to mislead us instead and say that Nephi needs a therapist. Perhaps he does, but that's not the reason for the quotes you gave.

I'm so disgusted right now. really.

That so many are so f**king oblivious as to how their actions can impact others is really something that stuns me.

I'm so repulsed right now. Even at my own behavior.

I was a moderator and prominent poster on anti-social.com almost 10 years ago. vile, demeaning, dogpiles of every sort. Sacred cows curbstomped with delight.

We were infiltrated by students studying our behavior and had news articles typed up about us... and today I see the same sort of taunts and ridicules that come from those supposedly raised to love their fellow man and some that still proclaim to follow Christ.

It's a thin line - that human nature.

That I too forget at times that there are humans on the other side of this screen is something I'm going to have to reflect upon.

And more reflection will be required as to why I at times delight in others torment.
