Don't most convicted felons serve their sentences while they appeal? Are there factors that courts use to determine whether a convicted felon stays free pending appeal? (This stuff is deep weeds for me.)

I would say you know more than I because I'm not a lawyer. What you are saying does sounds right. Many individuals are serving time as they appeal their conviction and others are denied bail prior to trial. Perhaps it might be the risk of harm to society. In the news they always bring up the risk of flight when addressing this issue. People here can see the arguments for or against Trump being a present threat to society, especially since he's running again to be President. I understand those who believe he should be incarcerated and eating lunch with P. Diddy, Harvey Weinstein and Sam Bankman-Fried, but unfortunately Trump is at a whole different level. The consequences of him going to jail could set off civil unrest. I'm sure in the long run we'll be okay because we have a system of checks and balances. If the presidency fails we still have a Congress and Supreme Court until the executive branch is rebuilt.

Criminal law ain't my bailiwick. I'd have to defer to Dr. Exiled on that.

What if the Supreme Court frees him and lets him flee to Moscow? From there Trump could make speeches on how terrible America is and how bad Sleepy Joe was. Moscow might even encourage Eric and Don Jr. to hunt for Siberian tigers.
