I am asking you this in that when confronted or questioned on your rants, you just retract and question the intelligence of those that dare question your opinions, as if you know what the hell you are talking about, while never defending your position with any substance?
I'll be honest, you are not consistently on that list, or even often on that list. Sometimes, you do give me something to think about. Not lately. If you paid the least bit of attention to how I actually interact with everyone, you wouldn't say such dumb crap about my posting habits. My guess is that you aren't bright enough to figure out when my posts have substance or lack it. You just call things you don't understand and/or don't agree with "lacking in substance."
I gave up trying to interact with him a very long time ago although I sometimes open his posts (ignore) to see the totality of something I saw copied into another post. He did SO good on his art thread and I told him that he simply shined on there. I will give a compliment or positive comment (as well as negative) to any poster on this board when I think it's warranted even when I've put them on ignore for other reasons. I find him mostly going around in circles, derailing and going off on irrelevant tangents, and more simply put...a vortex.
But he DID shine on the art thread he made! His comments were insightful and thought provoking. I wouldn't have expected such keen observational skills by reading his other types of postings.
So many times I have been arguing out something with a person possibly even insulting them and then offer a positive comment on another thread which I am sure confuses people or makes me come off a little schizo...but I respond to what I see and think about it without condemning anyone here based on one position or one experience with them.
That said, what in the hell am I doing on that list of posters?
Those are all posters I look up to for various reasons. I like what you said about testing your ideas. I was "raised up" on a board where we did that exact thing (intellectual meat grinder) and learned to love how much I benefitted from it. The primary reason I post on these boards is because I want to learn and also revise my positions as I move forward in that learning process as I try to get closer to the truth of a thing. I want to know what people think and why they think it. That intellectual curiosity has opened my eyes more than once! A close second to that is a lifelong wanting to know people's stories and what formed them and molded them into who they are today. That second interest served me well professionally. There are folks who post who lack self awareness and self insight. Metacognition is an awareness they haven't developed. They think they know, but they don't know that they know and...they don't know what they don't know. When the truth is that there is more to learn for all of us. I tend to think that those folks think changing or revising a position they've taken is a sign of weakness. When thinking, examining, and revising is the very strength that grows us.
We're seeing that in Trump on the daily. And now...I am thinking about MAGA folks who follow him. It can't be simply a lack of metacognition but I'm willing to bet it's part of it for many. That and a dose of laziness, wanting simple answers to complex questions, as well as low critical thinking skills for sure.
