Maksutov:
That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.
Mayan Elephant:
Not only have I denounced the Big Lie, I have denounced the Big lie big lie.
It is now a practically unequivocal fact that the surest way to know that something is true is Trump insistently claiming it to be a hoax. Is there really anyone here who has not yet figured out that practically incontrovertible fact?
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

I like it. It’s a new maxim. “When Trump speaks, the exact opposite is true.”

Yes! I have long ago lost count of how many times that has proven to be true.

I think it is true to say that Trump does not principally see publicly spoken words as a way of informing other people about what is the case. Rather, words are a kind of magic spell that can be used to change the nature of reality. As the Bellman says in the nonsense poem The Hunting of the Snark, by Lewis Carroll, author of Alice in Wonderland, "What I tell you three times is true".
And so far as his base is concerned, it is.

The GOP habit of pounding home a lie through repetition has been around since I moved to the US, so the fact that so many GOP voters fall for today's style of BS should come as no surprise to anyone. Given that their current "leader" is a idiot who does nothing but speak what he wishes were true simply tests their ability to swallow the largest truckloads of said BS.
Turns out, they can handle the load. It's like they live and breath on pure nonsense. Hence, cult.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense. It's also the favored cover for hypocrites.
