Don't get me wrong I don't think the system is perfect and if I could wave the magic wand to fix it I'd do so but I do think you may be painting a touch more harsh there than it actually is. Although first generations immigrating here do sacrifice lots and put in a ton of work for the betterment of their families, my experiences tell me that generally their lives are personally better than they would have been elsewhere as well and I've still yet to meet anyone that regretted their immigration.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote:Perhaps the cost of citizenship is the sacrifice of one's own life to ensure the betterment of your progeny's; and perhaps the pathway to citizenship is paid through hard labor thus benefiting the man and woman who are willing to sacrifice in order to give us cheap food and concurrently a better life for their own family.
Ugh. That sounds gross, but I can't really see how to work this out any other way.

I know lots of immigrants because I live in one of those newfangled sit-ees. For what is worth, they tend hyper-patriotic and glad about having immigrated.

If you're not in favor of building the wall, why are you so strenuously defending Trump's determination to hold hundreds of thousands of government employees hostage, without pay, over getting the authorization and funds to build it?
Why do you support Pelosi holding hundreds of thousands of government employees hostage over a .01 percent budget item? What exactly do you think would be the real impact of Pelosi emerging today and saying "In an effort to relieve the burden of hundreds of thousands of government employees I will fund Trump's wall"?
Gunnar wrote:For that matter, how can you continue to be so collosally irrational as to defend and support such a collosally corrupt and incompetent idiot at all, wall or no wall?
Not sure I defend Trump so much as I dispute hair-fire reasoning. But I really have no issue with most of the policies Trump has enacted. I could care less about Stormy of peeing hooker because that literally means nothing to the job and had had no proven influence on performance...but I am sure you disagree, which is great but meaningless unless you have facts.
and for what it's worth, irrational is the list of assaults you and your ilk have levied against Trump since Nov 7th 2016, all of which have borne no fruit of truth....you guys are going to run out of "scandalous accusations" before the end of 2019....then what? because currently the DNC has no coherent and unilateral consensus on policy and platform apart from "whatever Trump is for, we are against".

Which of the three assertions do you want to have established? I'm not sure what you are ignorant about here. That Mexican-American voters had low political engagement in the early 2000's, were more culturally conservative, or that the GOP thought they could use those facts to increase Mexican-American support for Republicans such to create a semi-permanent Republican demographic edge? All 3 are true, but I can't know in advance what you've have your head in the sand about. To be unaware of the Rove's Republican majority strategy of the early 2000's while being a functioning adult at that time is impressive, but I guess if you spend all your time chasing down Clinton-murders stories, maybe your attention gets divided. I don't know. Tell me what is you aren't aware of.

What's the conspiracy theory again? That Karl Rove's durable Republican majority strategy existed? Or that it was preceded by what's usually called the "Southern strategy?" Or that these two came into conflict? Again, I can't presume to know what specific parts you are ignorant about. Maybe all of them.

Sure. Perhaps I should've stayed on message and reminded the reader I was talking about illegal immigrants who find themselves stuck between a farm and a hard place.

just prove that Republicans targeted them via an immigration policy and that the reason behind this targeting was because these immigrants would be easily influenced to support Republicans.
You spouting out some demographics about low activity does nopt prove that republican strategy...take off your tin foil hat and provide some facts toward the republican party motivation.

I don't think we're in disagreement here, mainly just wanted to clarify how I viewed it. You're quite right that adding the "illegal" part does further complicate the equation.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote:Sure. I personally prefer turning a blind eye to the illegal part of the immigration compared to farm work visas. Just making the work "legal" doesn't make it ethical. One could argue that buying someone's labor without providing their kids the chance to go to school here and make the jump to full citizenship themselves is taking without giving anything in return but a paycheck.
