I've prayed a total of 0 times during this ordeal.
I'm delighted to hear your good news.
I'm with you on the not praying bit. Even if Yahweh is really up there, why would one address a deity on medical matters who could not even be bothered to tell his chosen people to boil their water before drinking it, while obsessing about stuff like not eating prawns and not having milk and meat at the same meal?
Zadok: I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis. Maksutov: That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

This week I begin daily radiation treatment for prostate cancer, which I will probably have to endure for about 2 months. I'm not terribly worried, though. It's in its early stages, and prostate cancer tends to grow very slowly anyway, even if not treated, and is one of the most easily curable types of cancer. My urologist and oncologist both assure me that if one has to have cancer, prostate cancer is one of the best types to have. I am not in any pain or discomfort, and don't feel the slightest bit incapacitated, except for not being able to pee without the help of a catheter.
Good luck with that, Gunner--although what I'm really saying is -good science! Hope all goes well.
Kevin Graham wrote:Damn Gunnar sorry to hear about this I had no idea you had it too. But the prognosis for that kind of cancer is usually very good especially when caught early. Hope everything works out with your therapy.
Thanks a lot, Kevin! I'm pretty hopeful and confident of a good outcome. My situation is not nearly as dangerous nor as potentially serious as your wife's is or was. My best wishes for her continuing remission! I'm just thankful that as a retired military, I am covered by both Medicare and Tricare. I sorrow for those who, thanks for our deplorable medical care system and policies, have no medical coverage at all.

You're going to do just fine! I know you are! <3
Thanks again for your encouragement! It turned out that today's appointment was not for actual radiation treatment. It was a CT scan and a simulation to place the tattoos that along with the fiduciary markers already installed by my urologist will determine how best to aim the radiation beam. The actual daily irradiation starts two weeks from now, and will continue five days a week for about nine weeks.

Thanks! And I agree, as the case with Kevin, it is the science I am relying on, though I don't disdain any benefit that may result from plain old good luck!

I'm really glad that you posted about your situation here. This really is a community and we care about you. Do you remember how I used to say that if you get in the trenches with someone and stay there long enough, you're going to know the core of who they really are? I like your core, Gunnar. :-)
I continue to learn from these posts about what it really means to "fight cancer" and what the process involves. More than that, I see the power of the human spirit to rise.
Rise, Gunnar!

Kevin, I am SO GLAD to hear this good news. What an enormous relief!!!
Best of luck to you all as you navigate the recovery period.
