CNN is regularly criticized for being very hands off when it comes to making stark comparisons between political sides. EA used to complain about their so-called "both siding" issues only slightly less than he expressed alarm regarding the effects of conservative media for a reason.

Maybe what you saw last night was not what you were led to expect but only because your expectations were defined by the alarmist propaganda machine that is conservative news. Makes you wonder what else they are misrepresenting and then reframing? No? Color me unsurprised

Then how do you explain Gunnar seeing it as an example of Dana Bash and Jake Tapper helping Donald Trump and being unfair to Biden?

Why do you think that a network consistently hostile to everything Trump was willing to be fair to him for a couple hours?

The problem is that you have lost the ability to distinguish between reality and propaganda when it comes to media treatment of Trump. Rather than trying to make any credible argument grounded in policy or Trump’s record, right-wing media has attempted to shield Trump from criticism by attacking the media as being “left wing.” Rather than trying to score points on the field, they simply spend enormous effort working the refs and the crowd. As in so many other cases, the right actually does what it accuses the left of doing.

I don’t care about fairness to Trump or Biden. I care about fairness to the American people. And it is unfair to the American people for debate moderators to listen to a participant make unhinged claim after unhinged claim and pretend that making unhinged claims is perfectly acceptable for a candidate who is auditioning for the most powerful position in the country.

Why wasn’t the debate the anti-Trump rigged nightmare you predicted? Because, in part, Breitbart lies to you about what the mainstream media actually does. And because CNN is a company controlled by rich people who are more interested in maintaining the budget busting Trump tax cuts than anything else.

The mainstream media has been much, much tougher on Biden than it has on Trump during Biden’s presidency because, in significant part, he’s the President and because the economic interests of the owners are more aligned with those of the Koch brothers and Leonard Leo than they will ever admit.

That’s why, even though Trump’s speeches — especially when he goes off script — show alarming signs that he’s losing his grip on reality, the mainstream media chatter incessantly about Biden’s mental state. And why so many Americans don’t understand how strong the economy is today, and that crime rates have fallen and continue to fall since the pandemic.

My concern is why CNN did not seem to care that Trump was reciting one lie after another. It would take a debater of Pete Buttigieg's intelligence to deal with an unending barrage of lies. Biden simply noting the pile of lies (gish gallop of lies?) did not seem sufficient.

I wish Republicans cared about the truth, but that would diminish their support for Trump.

Now you're all freaking out because it turns out he actually is suffering from dementia. What I don't understand is why knowing this full well and knowing this was all a lie, the deep state and Biden's handlers chose to trot Biden out there last night anyway? What were they thinking? Perhaps I was wrong and Trump was right on this decision to accept the left's terms for this debate. I really thought they could dope up Biden and the mods would protect him. But Trump knew if he just get BIden to shuffle out onto that stage and start speaking gibberish, it would prove to the American people that mainstream media had been lying the entire time about BIden's mental fitness to be president.

So he's not senile in your opinion. Then the truth is closer to what I originally said. They sent a tired old man out there last night to try and defend indefensibly bad economic policy that has resulted in the current situation. Eventually he realized that the American people weren't buying his lies anymore. He got rattled and it was more than his 81 year old mind could deal with. The same thing would have happened to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez or Jamaal Bowman. It's not like they're any smarter than Biden ever was.
