If Trump, et.al. are serious about crime in D.C., I would hope they’d adjust course towards things which have been proven to work at reducing crimes. Things like investing in opportunities for the citizens of the city. Job training, education, and employment programs. Investment in public education, afterschool programs, and early childhood interventions. Targeted, and specific actions based on ongoing analysis of data, etc. Basically all of the things that have been shown to actually help, and that Trump and company actively try to defund, subvert, or dismantle.

Unfortunately, as far as research goes, implementing (even temporarily) "broken windows" police state approaches will likely have adverse outcomes long-term, and is potentially the absolute least cost effective and most wasteful way of going about it.

That said, our nation’s capital should be a beacon for the rest of the country, and part of that is low crime rates. That the capital of the richest nation on earth isn't also one of the places with the lowest crime and most prosperity is depressing. I guess a 15-year-old girl punching a Trumplican named “Big Balls” while attempting to commit a crime that D.C. doesn’t even crack the top 50 for, is as good a reason as any for crime reduction efforts to be implemented.

I'm still of the opinion that this isn't some kind of power grab, or calculated move for martial law (or even actually reducing crime for that matter). It's a useful distraction from the economic data, rampant deficit spending, American citizens being kidnapped, foreign tourism tanking, the dollar being decimated, multiple foreign policy blunders, and of course... there still being a minority of Americans who support the President being a sexual predator who has raped children. It's just another "they're eating the dogs."
