I would have relations with a goat for one of these:

So true. Have you ever heard one of them played live?

Also any form of early keyboard: harpsichord, clavier, etc., also are mind blowing to see live.

Speaking of pedal steel...I saw Wilco last night and Nels Cline was on the steel (as well as lead electric, at which he is absolutely r******d). It sounded perfect. I wish I knew how to play one of those.

I thought about you last night!

Nels had trouble at the Tulsa concert during Walken, but resolved the problem in the nick of time. I was standing right in front of him and enjoyed his goofiness immensely.

Here's a video of Nels the night of "my" concert in Tulsa:

I hope you had a great time last night, SK!

Unfortunately, no.

I bet. I have never seen any of those live.

On a somewhat related note... my grandmother has a Steinway "upright grand" (1920's I think). I wish I had a picture of it to show you. The carvings on the front are magnificent.

And, on a pretty unrelated note, I've been thinking about building a theremin (with it I would send out good vibrations to the world...)

Ooooh...I played a theremin once. Or rather played around with one. This DJ kid I knew had an old one built in tht 50's--he was totally cool about letting people come over to his place and just mess around with it. Sadly, both he and it are now in Berlin.

Ah, the Theremin. Cool stuff. I have never played one, sadly.

I've been doing some recording lately, so I thought I'd show off a couple of new toys:

I'm upgrading from Garageband

The hombre that is recording us uses Logic. I almost bought a Mac because of it. The latest upgrade has this great feature where every take of a given track are just "piled up" in the track. So, you can open up the track, and take little snippets from every take in order to create the "perfect" track.

There are also what seems to be endless plug-ins (and by endless… I mean endless). What kind of Mac are you going to be using it with? His computer gets uppity when too many plug-ins are active as it can be a pretty demanding program (he has a Mac Pro – not sure what the specs are, but I think it has two quad-core processors and 8GB of RAM).

PS.
Since I know how much you like to hate me, next month I will be playing at the House of Blues.

Date and time please, and a time when tickets go on sale. I love the House of Blues at the Mandalay Bay, that is one of my favorite places to see a show, although I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I saw Static-X there. that's when I realized I was too old to be there. Whole floor was a pit.

I bought Logic Express. It's the same sequencer as Logic Studio (which is probably what your friend is using), but with less plug-ins and instruments. I'm running it on my mac mini which is a single core 1.5 Intel processor and 2 gigs of RAM. I don't use many plug-ins while recording, so I haven't had any freeze ups. I try to keep my songs pretty simple, usually around 8 tracks maximum. The big memory hog is reverb. I try to use it only when necessary. What I should really do is get a rack reverb unit so I can record it going in, rather than adding it after the fact. I just started playing around with Logic last night and it looks like it has some great features. The plug-ins are definitely better than garageband. I like the interface as well...vertical sliders, yay. I'm looking forward to creating some loops with the Battery 3 database of sounds. If you make it up to this beautiful state, drop by and we'll record some stuff. Bring chicks.

Oh, and that comment about you playing at the House of Blues was totally unnecessary. I thought we were bros. ;)
