Do you live near wooded areas for walking?
Why, do you need to be near wooded areas to walk?
Do you have neighbors or family that also might walk with you?
My neighbors and family members don't even like to talk to me, so I think walking with me would be completely undoable.
My grandparents would always go out for a stroll after dinner. It probably helped somewhat in keeping their weight in check, but they always viewed it as their time to be with each other while being out and about in their surroundings.
That made me smile. Thanks! :)

You can spin that favorably, too. Just tell everyone in the household that you’re giving them ‘alone time’ away from you. They’ll have no choice but to be impressed by how considerate you are. : D

Yep! Candy, chocolate and chips are some of my favorite things on the planet. Not sure how I'm going to manage with these beautiful treasures but I will see how it goes. Instead of eliminating - perhaps cutting way back is doable for now?
Cutting back is a good first step. So...I have a couple of replacement foods for you but tell me first, do you like nuts or seeds at all?

Yes - I am a huge fan all kinds of nuts and seeds (almonds, cashews, pistachios, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, squash seeds)

Okay! Let me say this. There was a time when I could kill off a whole bag of Cheetos or Ranch Ruffles by myself in one sitting. I've never been much of a candy person, but I get it. I do like crackerjacks so that is close to candy I guess. I like popcorn which I still eat but only real popcorn that you pop in a pot on the stove. Plain and simple. No butter, no salt, just popcorn.

When I started making food trade outs for a heart healthy diet, I went through my lists of heart healthy foods one of the first things I did was that I started eating almonds for a crunchy snack (20 almonds, yes I counted them) and then...I had to take my first heart healthy airplane trip and devised a snack that would get me through any trip so I didn't have to eat airline crap foods. This will get you through a flight, a layover, you can eat it as a snack, breakfast, or a replacement for any meal. Now the entire tribe refers to it as...

Airplane Snack®

Walnuts
Craisins
Dark Chocolate Chips

Put a bunch of that together and take it with you on your way to work. No salt and the dark chocolate chips are heart healthy. Keep it in your car and eat it for breakfast!

Here's another thing that I eat every single day for snack. If I run out (supply chain issues) I start to get squirrely. You get these at Walmart and if the supply chain messes up, you can order them on the Amazonian but they gouge you for them.

If I were you, I'd drop just one thing that you like and make a trade out. Use some of the above ideas or devise your own. Make your own snack mixes from those good nuts and seeds you like and keep containers of that on hand. I buy no salt added everything.

You can always trade out for baby carrots or a piece of fruit. When I started out, I thought in terms of making trade outs.
Giving up one thing and replacing it with a suitable more healthy substitute. That's what worked for me.

Food is for you to enjoy. Don't be afraid to widen the lens and introduce new foods or new ways of eating into your daily life. For the most part, I eat clean. I primarily do not eat processed foods and if someone offers me something--the rumors you hear are true--those old foods lose their luster and they taste like crap to me now.

I heard my husband say to his sister on a call...Jersey doesn't eat like anyone else. ;-) My whole family knows that. I don't push what I do on anyone, I quietly take what I want when we're together, but they respect what I do or at least have learned to live with it. My Thanksgiving plate looks like a little sampler plate! Ha! But I get to try everything!

p.s. If you eat cheater foods, just enjoy it knowing that you eat overall a healthy diet. Then get back on the horse and ride again. I've gotten to a point where I don't have to even think about what I eat much though I do need to remember to eat small portions and spread them out because if I eat too much in one meal I stand a chance of it triggering my heart. My diet and altered recipes have changed enough to where I feel comfortable and I never feel guilty if I eat a cheater food---found mini ice cream sandwiches this summer! They were really good! :-D

I am sure I will enjoy these ideas. They sound delicious even if I wasn't trying to loose any weight.

If I can ask, did your husband go on this health journey with you? Or did you do this kind of on your own?

Ceeboo keep reading all the ideas on this thread, something is going to resonate with you. I can almost guarantee it. And then you'll set off on your own customized path that works better for you. I took a nutrition class in college so I already knew some thing about tweaking my diet but...one thing that really helped was I went for a consult with a dietitian and that really served me well in that it triggered my memory of what I had learned years before, gave me some updated information (she had examples of real food packages and such for comparison), got me back to reading labels, and I got a packet of food lists. The very first thing I did was to take those food lists and make a list of my own with only foods that I liked. Then, I basically took it from there.

I recall that the very first thing I did was to take everything I used to put on a sandwich, take away the bread and make a salad out of it. Example: Lettuce, tomatoes, sliced turkey, cheese. Then...I took away the turkey and traded out for beans but I still will put a sprinkle of shredded cheese on top and I've never given up Ranch dressing, only reduced it to a sort of smear. Did the same thing with pasta salad. Traded out the deli meats for beans, went low on the pasta and higher on the veg, kept the broccoli, tomatoes, etc. and...the Ranch!

You read all of that?

No, he didn't go with me but only part way by default. I changed all the recipes I make so he'll eat those but he basically eats crap. He did start eating those dark chocolate almonds this year. He developed type 2 diabetes and he will eat safely for a while then brings home a whole pie and kills it in one night.

But nah, I go along my merry way and do my own thing.

Recipes I changed were things like pasta sauce, beef stew, some soups, chili, this pork chop deal I make that he likes. I forget what else I changed. In summer I live off salads, in fall/winter I tend to cook more. I love to bake tea breads. I only eat small portions of those and I tend to bake and give away to the family. If you like those kinds of breads (think nut breads or whatever) I have a new recipe for apple bread that is a bit healthier that I'm going to put on a new thread here soon. You know what, I'll try to get that up today.

Ceeboo keep in mind that what I put here, that I'm not a big hunk of a guy like you are. I'm small and mostly lightweight and so my dietary needs are different than yours.

ETA: big hunk of a guy...remember you posted your pic early on in your participation here? I recall what you look like and by the way, you do NOT deserve such a beautiful wife.

The reason I asked the question was because I am wondering (should I actually do this and make these changes) how this will all work if the rest of my family living in the house doesn't want to continue or if they bring home a whole pie (I do all the cooking and I think I would be pretty tempted by a banana cream pie sitting on my freaking counter next to my grilled chicken breast  )

So, I guess in your situation you made two different dinners? One for you and one for Mr Jersey?

Understood.
