A little off point here, but do you think that a guy would run for a second term for the express purpose of increasing his wealth and avoiding prison until he dies? As in facilitating the mother of all deferments.

This is assuming that the SDNY doesn't drop the hammer on his children in the mean time.

President's run again normally if for no other reason than institutional momentum compels them to do so. And I can't fathom how Trump's quite apparent narcissism issue doesn't forbid him from not continuing to try to be a "winner." I could see a scenario in which Trump is so deep in the polls that he claims to have already made America Great Again and bows out gracefully, but because he already won an election where he was down 11ish points only a few weeks before the election, it's hard to see his team thinking any hole is too deep.

Now, on top of this, we have the problem that Trump's best way to avoid criminal justice consequences is to stay in office as long as possible to command the full powers of the presidency and partisan aid to protect him.

So, Trump's running. And no matter how bad it gets with respect to his corruption and revealed crimes, that's not really the basis for a lot of voter behavior. So long as the we're in a decent economy and no unpopular wars break out, he's got a good chance at winning.

There’s already a profoundly damaging case for impeachment based on publicly known facts alone. That it it barely registers tells you that additional facts are unlikely to move us much off the standstill. You’re not going to get a recording of criminal conspiracy on tape, and even if you did, the provenance of that would be challenged too.

We’re at the phase where nothing short of a signed confession from Joseph Smith would convince a lot of Mormons that he was a fraud, and even if you had that, they’d deny it was real.

I think it is quite likely the Mueller report gives us a more detailed version of what we already have: Lots of evidence of dubious contacts with Russian actors, numerous underlings committing crimes and ethical breaches on his behalf with his implied knowledge, and public signs of cooperation and assistance running in both directions. We already watched numerous examples of the last item play out on live TV. Looking for the final aha! just obscures what we already have seen.
