It makes people irrationally obsessed with "progressives" (not to be confused with actual people who generally think positively about progress; in this context, it's just a vague term to imply general, undefined bad stuff from people they don't care to understand. What makes these accusations of "white genocide" in South Africa particularly stupid is that white people still own and control the vast majority of the wealth in that country, despite being only 7.3% of the population. If there really were a concerted effort by the vast majority nonwhite population to exterminate whites or take by force and without compensation what whites owned and controlled away from them, this situation could not have persisted for very long. This doesn't mean there are no remaining problems or unfair inequities, but my impression, from what I've read, is that the overall situation is better than it ever was under Apartheid, and is still slowly improving, but not without some fits and starts.
