This is just [DT] misrepresenting research to try and score a rhetorical point, but doing it to people too well-educated for that point to land.

DT,DoubtingThomas wrote: ↑Sat May 02, 2020 10:51 pmEphebophilia is legal in some European countries, Brazil, the philippines, and many other countries, but I will never move to those countries. So please stop it with the labels.
You should know this is disturbing at minimum. And, when combined with pointing out you are using specific, legally ok language ("If I had said,...") with intention on the board?
Yeah. It's pretty screwed up.

Please put the context. EAllusion was accusing me of ephebophilia because I said 18-22 are generally more attractive. I thought I was making a good point, I was trying to make an argument to show EAllusion that I not into ephebophilia. That is so wrong.honorentheos wrote: ↑Sat May 02, 2020 11:54 pmDT,

Yeah. It's pretty ____ up.
I could delete that comment it if you want.

Okay I will have to take your word for that and I will have to do more research.EAllusion wrote: ↑Sat May 02, 2020 11:47 pmThere is a body of data suggesting some variance between men and women in what they say and/or act as though they are attractive, but these are heavily overlapping distributions and not some fundamental difference between individual men and women. That's abuse of science #1. There is the field of evolutionary psychology that attempts to attribute these variances to sexual dimorphism driven by natural selection, but that field is notorious for being rife with dubious methodology and just-so conclusions. Not that it matters because you're not even trying to summon that field. You're just pointing to an observed difference, which you are already fundamentally misrepresenting, and saying, "evolution predicts this." No it doesn't. I have taken graduate level work in organic evolution and your take on what "evolution" says is too silly to even interact with. At least the evo-psych devotees put some effort into it
I know, but it is what it is. I am sure the Tobacco industry doesn't want people to die from lung cancer.EAllusion wrote: ↑Sat May 02, 2020 11:47 pmThat being unmarried is either itself a risk factor or related to risk factors that predict a higher cardiovascular disease incidence doesn't mean that any suggestion that you should be single - for instance because of your raging misogyny - doesn't mean that people are wishing death on you.
My family has a history of heart disease. I don't want to gamble with the possibility of getting heart disease. Hearth disease scares me more than coronavirus.
By 46%? "Even after taking major cardiovascular risk factors such as age, body fat, smoking, blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol into account, married men had a 46% lower rate of death than unmarried men."EAllusion wrote: ↑Sat May 02, 2020 11:47 pmLife is full of risks and tradeoffs. Advising a person do something that has some risk associated with it is not ipso facto the equivalent to saying they deserve the risky outcome happening. Air pollution in cities is associated with increased mortality risk. Was Dr. Exiled saying you should die when he offered for you to come to Las Vegas? Of course not. This is just you misrepresenting research to try and score a rhetorical point, but doing it to people too well-educated for that point to land.

Do you get routine blood labs run to check for signals that lead to heart disease? My family has a history of heart disease. I don't want to gamble with the possibility of getting heart disease. Hearth disease scares me more than coronavirus.

"strong overtones of ephebophilia"
I honestly don't understand why it is disturbing, but I deleted that comment.
What Eallusion said is not disturbing? and are you going to call out those countries?

Then you're already gambling with heart disease regardless of whatever your age is.DoubtingThomas wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2020 12:23 amNo, but I did have my physical examination in Feb.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2020 12:16 am
