In other news, today is the first day of school in the great state of Florida. And...we'll just see how that goes girls and boys.

Unh-oh, did I walk into something ongoing here? I have no idea what you mean.
Jersey Girl mentioned she wasn’t going to Florida due to people not being vaccinated and the delta variant emerging as a result, and he asked her why she wouldn’t go if she were vaccinated.

Bumping for Dr. Shades. Did you ever figure out why Jersey Girl shouldn’t vacation in Florida, yet?

Well my goodness. I figured it out what was being discussed, but there are some still who haven't?

It brings to mind the phrase my grandma used to use: "the brains god gave a goose."

I'm seeing rumblings about the FDA being about ready to approve boosters for the immunocompromised. Not seeing anything from the FDA itself. Be on the watch for it, I guess.

For those curious about vaccine findings reported on the right-wing junk-news site called "humanevents.com", here is the text of the study they selectively read.
medrxiv wrote: However, in July, the effectiveness against infection was considerably lower for mRNA-1273 (76%, 95% CI: 58-87%) with an even more pronounced reduction in effectiveness for BNT162b2 (42%, 95% CI: 13-62%
(mRNA-1273 - Moderna, the other is Pfizer; CI = confidence interval).

Other news sources not so bent on killing people by misrepresenting the effectiveness of the vaccines also noted the study's findings on hospitalization, death, and serious infection.
medrxiv wrote:On the other hand, the mRNA-1273 and BNT162b2 cohorts had similar rates of hospitalization (IRR: 0.57, 95% CI: 0.17-1.7, p=0.30), ICU admission (IRR: 0.53, 95% CI: 0.0089-10, p=0.59), and death (no events in either cohort) (Table 2 and Figures S2B-C).
medrxiv wrote:Importantly, the effectiveness of mRNA-1273 and BNT162b2 against COVID-19 associated hospitalization has remained more consistently high
medrxiv wrote:mRNA-1273 and BNT162b2 were originally designed, tested, and proven to reduce the burden of symptomatic disease, hospitalization, and death related to SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study further supports the effectiveness of both vaccines in doing so, even despite the evolution of more transmissible viral variants.
The conclusion in the abstract:
medrxiv wrote:Our observational study highlights that while both mRNA COVID-19 vaccines strongly protect against infection and severe disease, further evaluation of mechanisms underlying differences in their effectiveness such as dosing regimens and vaccine composition are warranted.
That's a far cry from declaring the vaccines a failure.

It's an unsurprising result of the anti-intellectualism opinion leaders on the right have been preaching since at least the Eisenhower administration.

You mean boosters for the people that are vaccinated but the vaccine didn't work? Or boosters for people that are vaccinated but the vaccine will soon not work?

In what damned crazy crazy scenario will the FDA approve vaccine boosters where they have not fully approved the vaccine? Oh, this crazy crazy scenario. That is the answer.

If one understands the process and requirements of an Emergency Use Authorization and full FDA approval, there is nothing crazy crazy about it. EUA's are intended for public health emergencies. I don't recall that the emergency status has been lifted.

Vaccine does not work. It failed. Now what?
(except that Gad’s post above exposes the faultiness of that conclusion)

Option A —> Virus spreads amongst unvaccinated population, possibly developing into a more deadly variant, affecting even those who had previously contracted the virus.

Option B —> Virus spreads amongst vaccinated and unvaccinated population, possibly developing into a more deadly variant, regardless of vaccination status.

Difference: Cultellus bitches about something with the second scenario, but is incapable of deciding what it is.

In either situation —> Vaccination still reduces the death rate and mitigates effects of the more deadly variant.
