I would have preferred Pete but I agree with what you said. It's just too soon for him.
I, too, would have preferred Pete. But this ain't bad. I think Shapiro would have been riskier in the current climate.

Pete... would have been too alienating to the average voter.
No way would the average voter cotton to the smartest, most capable, and honest candidate. The people demand mediocrity to validate their existence. He would have stolen Reagan's great communicator crown.

Some voters want a lying, cheating, narcissist who will cozy up to dictators and sell out our allies.

You know I didn't even know who Tim Walz was until I read his wiki. So I like that he's a former military NCO, his personal commitment to continuing education and, having worked in the field himself, his support of education in this country, LGBTQ/women/veterans/workers rights, his integrity in that he changed his position on the NRA post-Parkland mass shooting and his position on Israeli in Gaza as follows and bolding what stands out for me:
Israel–Hamas war

Walz condemned Hamas's October 7 attacks in Israel and ordered flags to be lowered to half mast in the following days.[109] After the 2024 Minnesota Democratic presidential primary, in which 19% of voters cast "uncommitted" ballots, Walz took a sympathetic view toward those doing so to protest President Biden's handling of the war in Gaza, calling them "civically engaged".[110]

Of the protests against U.S. funding of the war in Gaza, Walz said: "This issue is a humanitarian crisis. They have every right to be heard... These folks are asking for a change in course, they're asking for more pressure to be put on… You can hold competing things: that Israel has the right to defend itself, and the atrocities of October 7 are unacceptable, but Palestinian civilians being caught in this… has got to end." Walz also said he supports a ceasefire in Gaza.[111]
He sees the war in Gaza and it's humanitarian crisis the exact same way that I do. So of course his position resonates with me.

But I guess what impressed me most in all of the above is that he wasn't afraid to break away from the NRA following Parkland. I think there's a lot to admire about this man.

I agree. There is a lot to admire about him. He is a seasoned politician with a normie kind of background too.

Policy aside, a couple of leaders with a good vibe about them will hopefully go a long way with voters. Trump and Vance have got to be the gloomiest fear mongers who have ever ran for office.

I think it's just not Mayor Pete's time yet. But when it is...he's going to be phenomenal!

I only heard a few minutes. I'll listen up tomorrow. I think I feel really good about this guy. I want to see him debate the VP candidate on the other side! You know, the mascara and eyeliner clown.

Prediction: Since I was wrong about who'd take the VP spot, I'm going out on a smaller limb this time.

No possible way Mr. Maybelline will agree to debate Mr. Walz.

These digs at his appearance make me feel uncomfortable, especially since he has said he felt same sex attraction as a youth. There could easily be some self-hatred motivating his anti-LGBT actions as a politician.
