Salt Lake City information?

For those of you who have visited or live in the SLC area...how does the city compare to other cities you've visited in terms of:

Traffic and ease of navigation?

The coffee sucks. Seriously, I'd be pretty damned impressed if there was a single establishment in the entire state of Utah that could brew a cup though. Just something I noticed while passing through a few years back.

About navigation: It's pretty hard to get lost there. Everything in blocks and running north, south, east and west from the temple. Easy!

I've been hearing traffic is pretty bad on I-15 between Provo and SLC during rush hour and the road rage is unbelievable.

25 years ago I had a guy follow me from SLC all the way up Parley's Canyon, nearly to Park City, because I had failed to use a blinker and he was pissed. Swearing and giving me the finger the whole way. I had a full tank of gas, so I could have kept going forever. He must have been running low or late for work. He finally pulled off and turned around. I was going to lead him right into Wyoming. I had nothing to do that day and was enjoying the nice sunny weather and had the tunes cranked up. It was scary and hilarious at the same time.

They are nuts there on the highways. I can only imagine it has gotten worse, not better. At least, that is what I've heard.

I grew up there and know the city pretty well. Any more fun questions?

I find the drivers out here in northern CA to be much more courteous than what I see each summer that I visit the Mormon theocracy.

Personally, the Utah drivers are the worst I have experienced. Period.

I grew up in Salt Lake City and learned to drive here. The pace used to be much slower, but yeppers the drivers always seemed to be driving with one hand on the wheel -- even with auto-transmissions. I wonder why? Now most drivers here have cell phones and NO hands on the wheel. I wonder why?

Anyway, I later began to earn my living as a cross-country driver (repo-man precisely)-- so I've been virtually everywhere in the country. There aren't too many places with worse drivers than in Salt Lake City I can tell you for a fact, but I've been places where I'd been flipped off by old women for actually signally to change lanes. Two of those places were Cleveland, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois.

What really surprises me, though, is that the influx of drivers to Utah from other states has not improved the driving situation here one iota. Matter of fact, I'd say it's gotten much worse. `Seems as if new drivers are either trying hard to fit in or are just plain giving up and going with the flow.

Perhaps this is due to the fact that the majority are Mormons and all alike, and bad drivers. Those that are not Mormon are pissed off at the Mormons and assume all others on the road are Mormon and drive aggressively against them? LOL

I think this is the first time I have ever agreed with Porter on something. Maybe its that Mormons share a different view towards death than most people, but there are some really bad drivers in Utah. Maybe its the learning how to drive on tractors in those wide open fields, I don't know. I lived in Cedar City for a time, and I'm glad to have gotten away with all my appendages.

I was wondering if I was the only one who thought this. It seems not. We're glad you got out with all your appendages, as well, Gaz. As a matter of fact, I am glad I got out with all mine, too.

Is that because of the Danites or the cars? (coming out with all your appendages that is....I hear some....at the hand of the Danites...weren't so lucky!!!)
