After the VA Tech shooting debate that's been going on in the Terrestrial Kingdom, I thought a poll was in order.

I own 1.

Please clarify if you wish (ie family ownership, etc)

Edit: I forgot to add "16+" as a choice...so please leave a message if you have more.

I don't own any actual guns, although I am a proud owner of a rather impressive arsenal of Nerf weapons (the cross bow is one of my favorites, as is the semi-automatic pump-powered gun that fires off 20 nerf darts in rapid succession - good times).

I will proudly admit my nerf weapon to actual gun ratio is at least 15-1. Good times indeed.

I don't own any firearms. My father owned a .22 rifle for a while (short cartridge), and purchased two air rifles with which he taught us to shoot (I successfully shot a small bird once at long range, which survived, and a small bird another time at short range, which I killed, and that was my entire shooting career), but my mother never liked any of it, and the .22 was eventually sold. The air rifles remained until after my father died, at which point my mother did away with them.

I should clarify my gun ownership:

I own a .22 rifle which was a gift when I was young. I probably haven't shot it in at least 7-8 years. I don't even know if it still works...so really I should be down for 0. My entire extended family, huge gun owners. I will occasionally shoot guns for target practice...but I don't hunt. It doesn't really seem sporting to me.

We were only given our air rifles for target practice, and never taught to hunt. The two birds I shot at were purely opportunistic targets (and flukes at that). We derived far more satisfaction from filling the air rifles with either mung beans or chicken feed pellets, and joyfully shooting at each other (they stung, but didn't even break the skin, and we wore glasses so eye damage was unlikely).

We were far more at risk with our other pursuits (making firebombs, and occasionally throwing home made darts at each other, built out of long needles with toothpick shanks, sticky tape fins, and barbs made of solder).

16+ and then some.

I've had my Federal Firearms License for a little over seven years now, I owned and operated a gunstore for six years, and I still do custom work for a few of my old customers.

Pistols, I'm a diehard 1911 frame automatic user. I've got several models of Colt, Springfield Armory, and Paraordinence. But for carry use I only use and endose Kimber's line of 1911 frame pistols in .45ACP. Generally I carry a Kimber Tactical Custom II loaded with 230grn Federal HydraShok Tactical +P.

The Tactical Custom II I've worked on extensively. Reworked the trigger group, disconnector, and sear. Replaced the factory barrel with a 5in Bar-Sto match grade barrel and match bushing. Added a Videcki aluminum match trigger and hammer. Lowered anf flared the ejection port front to back, polished the feed ramp, added a Wolfe vari-power recoil spring and shok-buff, and beveled the magazine well for easier reloading. Instead of the factory seven round magazines I use Wilson eight round mags. I can print 3in groups at 25 yards with this weapon without any trouble at all.

And yes, I always carry Condition One. Full magazine plus one round chambered, hammer back, safety on.

I've got plenty of shotguns and rifles, as well as a nice little selection of Class III weapon systems.

What's a Class III weapon?

If that's the only thing you didn't understand, you're way ahead of me. I didn't think he was speaking english...

I put most of that in the "gun upgrades that make for more shooting fun" category and moved on.
