I just ate a bag of Cheetos. My last hurrah before carrying out my plans to walk for exercize this summer.

What sorts of supplements are good to add to one's diet? Not Cheetos, of course.

Lots of water. Plus bananas and other high-fiber fruit. Good luck! I've been working on my own "get fit" program. Amazing the havoc a couple kids can cause on a body.

I agree with Skippy. Lots of water, lots of fruit and vegtables.

Well, I'll tell you what got me thinking about this. I think I read a post by Bond (?) that mentioned flaxseed oil. Isn't that a dietary supplement? There's some kind of fish oil supplement, I can't think of what it's called at the moment.

And good luck with your get fit plan, skippy!

Heh-heh - the flaxseed oil is what Barry Bonds said he was taking, but it has been alleged that it was really, gasp, steroids. I think you saw a bit of the conversation where Bond was impugning my boyfriend Barry!

Anyhoo - it's always best to try to get your basic nutritional values through actual real food, and not so much in supplements. But sometimes that's just not practical, so I usually supplement with calcium and a multivitamin. I haven't seen enough value in the other range of various supplements to take any of them; instead I try to find where the nutrients occur naturally, and eat those foods. Or, I just chuck the whole idea and go get an orange mocha (my new favorite vice, but at least I order it non-fat, no whip).

by the way - I think you're thinking of Omega-3 for the fish oil thing. It's supposed to be good for your heart. I think you can get the same benefits from walnuts, which can also help curb your appetite if you eat like 6 about a half hour before a meal. I haven't tried that out, though.

You're a wealth of information, skippy! Weight isn't a big deal for me though I could stand to lose 10 pounds. I think I'll go the multi vitamin route though. Thanks again!

I stick to a multi-vitamin and focus on fruit and grains for most of my eating. I've stopped buying any meat other than lunchmeats.

Because cooking never seems worth it (cooking for one just stinks) I take a multivitamin because I know I don't eat enough vegetables. For snacks I try to stick to fruit and pretzels (emphasis on former).

I read an article recently that found a possible link between multivitamins and prostate cancer (for men). Since then, i've backed off the multi's - i only take one every other day now.

And for my advice - eat lots of small meals, instead of 3 big meals. And eat a good breakfast - oats ideally. Fruit and cottage cheese is a favorite for me as well. And almonds.
