Thanks to everyone who I've talked to about my Utah troubles

Post by _Blixa »

If I've talked to you in person, or here on the board, about my current visit to Utah, you've heard me ramble on about the family "crisis" regarding my lovely and intelligent 99 year old grandma's failing health. Laura was my true mother, as she was for both my brothers. It has been hard seeing her so frail. She was able to live by herself and take care of herself up until last May when she fell and broke her hip and never recovered her overall strength. She wanted to go, she was unhappy with living in such a diminished way, but of course, there were family struggles over who's wishes would be carried out.

I'm happy she died last night in her sleep. I'm also very, very sad. But I'm also very glad I was able to spend her last month with her.

Thanks to everyone who helped me by letting me vent about this the past few weeks, mostly by pm, but also in some cases in person. You got an earful, I'm sure.

I dread the family hoo ha that may now ensue (my brothers and I saw things quite differently than my parents--fortunately religion played no role in any of the problems, and won't be dragged into now, either), but I'm so happy that she got her final wish to die peacefully in her own home.

Oh, Blixa.

I'm sorry for your loss. I understand. I was very close to my grandmothers, who have both now passed away, as well.

I'm glad she died peacefully.

Thanks liz and Moksha. Mok, your kind words by pm really have helped. This trip has been an emotional overload.

I wish there were something I could say that would help. Just know you have a good friend pulling for you.

It will be ok and honestly her death played out in the best possibly way given the circumstances. That I got to spend her last month with her really helps me alot. But I owe her pretty much everything. I never would have survived my family without her, nor would as least one of my brothers...

Best wishes Blixa. I didn't realize it was going to come so fast when you explained the situation on Friday.

We're having a small get-together this Saturday at my place, 3 close friends and you're invited. Of course, we're all computer geeks and we'll be watching Rise Of The Silver Surfer in my theater...

Even so it's a chance to get away.

Give me a call or a PM.

That's great Infymus. I'd love it.

She, or rather her body, is being buried on Friday---a day that has very special significance for me: its the fifth anniverary of the Happiest Day of My Life (see my board blog for explanation). So I'm ok with that bittersweet coincidence.

Blixa,

You and I were discussing your grandmother not long before she died, weren't we? I'm sorry for your loss, but I know you are relieved she passed without drama over the pacemaker or other family fighting.

I know you loved her very much and will miss her. Aren't you glad she played the piano for you one last time?

Seeing you at exmo was lovely, by the way, and the songs you downloaded onto my iPod are fabulous. Thank you.

Take care. I'll be thinking of you this week.
