Dear Blixa and beastie,

I think the two of you mentioned "lolcats" in a previous post. Curious, I looked it up and now I know what the phenomenon is.

I also discovered a mini-documentary about the history of lolcats. It's pretty interesting. You can view it here.

Thanks shades. I used to be a big fan of Attack of the Show...haven't watched it much now so I didn't see that.

There's a comic artist---Adam Koford---who's created an entire mythology about the "true" orgin.. a comic strip created by his grandpappy in the days of early journalism called "The Laugh Out Loud Cats." He's started making these "real" "old" strips (staring hobo cat Kitteh and his friend the foundling Pip). They incorporate all the standard lolcat memes as well as "new" elements specific to the developing Kitteh and Pip saga. He's done about 700+ single frame comics that he sells for 10$ or $20 a pop. I have several, the calendar, his book and I'm an offical fan club member. He's done some YouTube vids of "documentaries" about his grandpappy, as well. He's really fun--he had two entries in the 20 winners of the redesign Eustace Tilly contest the New Yorker just ran (not his best work, though, IMHO). And he's a really sweet guy, too.

His flikr set. Let me show you it:
