I saw the Frontline special, Bush's War, on PBS these last two nights. I wish the entire voting population had
viewed this program (instead of TV "reality" game shows). It would help enable them to make an informed
choice this November.

Yeah, I generally don't make life decisions off of a single, biased television program.

In my experience, these kinds of shows know exactly what they want to portray and will selectively choose clips that help their cause.

Too bad you didn't see it then, Scottie. I was quite good and you might have learned something.

I know that sounds kind of harsh, but you must be a lot younger than Moksha and I. The mainstream media in the U.S. has been muzzled since the first Iraq war. If you'd lived through the coverage (across a journalistic spectrum) of Vietnam, you'd be appalled at what passes for information media in america today and wouldn't be so quick to glibly pass things off as "biased." Instead you'd be wondering about how much isn't covered and reported (seen any images of dead U.S. soldiers lately? Any images of death at all?).

I usually stay away from political threads on this board. I just read this one because I happened to see the programs and thought they were excellent.

The damage that's been done via "homeland security" will take a long time to rectify.

I have been watching this too. Frontline is one of my favorite things on television. I agree with you that it is too bad that so many people look for mindless programs to watch rather than tuning in to something that actually makes them think.

Awesome program! I watched it and recorded it, as well. Frontline always does an excellent job. Blixa is absolutely correct about how this war is portrayed in the media. It's propaganda that is fed to the American public and they are comfortable accepting it as such. I am under the impression that we should SEE what war is -- we want to wage it then we need to view the consequences! It is NOT a disservice to those that died to see their deaths -- it is a disservice to their deaths to pretend they do not occur and give them a blip at the end of a newsstory! The same with those that die as a result of this war that are not combatants. Use google image and you can see the results of war, sitting in our comfy homes, on our laptops, snacking on a burrito from taco bell and perhaps we should cringe a bit and lose our appetites.

This is all I was saying. I'm too cynical anymore to take anything any single source says as truth. I need to get both sides of an argument and decide for myself which is truth.

I'm just wondering what makes you all so sure this program doesn't have an agenda and isn't biased towards that agenda?? Even if the agenda is to show a counterpoint to what the mainstream media is showing, are you certain that they are doing a fair and balanced report?

Scottie, everything has "an agenda." You are using terms very naïvely ("bias," "both sides"). Read around. Especially read journalism from outside the U.S. (for example, the BBC is mainstream as it gets, yet its better than standard U.S. outlets). Read beyond the conservative U.S. mainstream (the term "liberal media" is a sad joke). Then read some history. Read a lot. Then you'll be in a position to re-understand terms like "fair," and "balanced" and make informed judgements.

What was interesting about the Frontline program to me was the commentary by one NYT journalist that was quite different than what ended up in the NYT.

And oh yeah, watch the program before you worry about its "bias."

I tell you one thing he has virtually assured that no republican will be elected for our next president. So i must say he has done something good. LOL
