how can I use a UK-based IP address?

I'm trying to watch some things on the BBC's iPlayer (bbc.co.uk/iplayer) and I can't because most of the content is restricted to IP addresses within the US.

I know there are sites you can go to that will act as a proxy so one can surf anonymously, or with some region-specific IP address, but I've never used this before and I don't know where to find them.

Does anyone know what page I can go to that will let me surf to the BBC's iPlayer page using a UK-based IP address?

Hmm, that link you put up is just to a list of proxy servers, and none of them specifically say they're from the UK. Do you see one in particular that does say it's a UK address? Would you mind putting up the IP address of it?

And thanks, Pirate!

edit: oops, she's put up some more stuff while I was composing my reply. Checking out the new stuff now. Thanks!

Arg. I managed to connect to the BBC iPlayer page through three different supposedly UK-based proxies, but when I try to watch a video, it's still telling me it's available only to UK-based viewers. I don't really understand what's going on.

Cookies? That's one way that webpages can detect when you're trying to use a proxy to outsmart their IP bans. Some people are smart enough to use a proxy but forget to delete their cookies. It also helps them detect what proxies exist so they can prevent others users from using them even if they remember to delete cookies.
