K, well Turtle Beach is great. It's a private beach and you can rent a house or a cottage. We rent a cottage every time we go. We go in the off seasons often and it's incredibly tranquil. You can also go and witness the turtles coming up to lay their eggs if you go the right time of year which is an amazing thing to witness. We eat lots of fresh local food (there are markets not too far) and essentially do nothing but sit on the beach, build sand castles, walk the beach, swing in the hammock, enjoy the breeze, go horse riding, and chill.

The cottage we rent has access to a hottub that is right off the main Inn and we can go up there at night and sit in it and look out over the beach at the waves and sit back and listen to the lapping of the surf. It's one of my favorite places to go and do NOTHING.

We also go to the mountains and chill. We used to do this a lot at Christmas time. Get a cabin and a tree, pop some popcorn, string our tree, watch the fire crackle, enjoy the snowfall (sit in the hottub), and once again CHILL out.

We actually end up all reading a lot... which is lovely.

We never eat out and just stock up with food before we go to our cabin and then become hermits for a week. If we desire to go down and play we can -- I prefer not to, yet, we have at times. There's a really cool Ripley's Museum there that we've gone to twice.

We've gone to Chattanooga a few times and stay at the Chattanooga Choo Choo (in an actual car of the old train -- the kids love that) and go to the Aquarium there, and Rock City.

We have a home that was my grandparents in Vermont that we visit too, at times. I'm sure there may be some rentals available there? There are!

We just hang out and enjoy the foliage (we like to go in the Fall when we go up there) and again, do NOTHING. :)

When we go to D.C. we go to see the Smithsonian and all the landmarks and stay with friends.

San Diego is a busy place, and we've gone there a few times.. not my favorite...

Of course there's also Japan and everyone should go there!

Moniker,

I've been to the Chatnooga Choo Choo! I found myself smiling when I read this part of your post:

Christmas time. Get a cabin and a tree, pop some popcorn, string our tree, watch the fire crackle, enjoy the snowfall (sit in the hottub), and once again CHILL out.

That's pretty much my winter life, except for plowing of course.

:-)

Jealous? No, don't be! There's a difference between choosing to stay inside by the fire and watching the snow fall and not being able to get out of your front door!

Just trust me on that one.

Marthas vineyard, of course!
And crawling on the planet's face
Some insects called the human race
Lost in time
And lost in space...and meaning

I've never been there. Never even thought of going... should I?

I like the Memphis Zoo, Mercury. Do you ever go?

Ooo, I forgot New Orleans and Savannah, GA!

So, I used to go to New Orleans a lot in my early 20's and stayed with friends or in this charming lil courtyard hotel -- and I can't find it on the net which frustrates the hell out of me. Yet, it was affordable in the off-season. I don't know how it would be now. I don't know how good it would be with kids 'cause I never went with any. Yet, when I was young it was fun.

I went to Savannah specifically for the home tours a few years ago and it is a beautiful city and plenty to do if you desire to. I just wanted to see the homes. Go to the Telfair Museum of Art, too!
