Obama and the race question

Post by _aussieguy55 »

As an Australian I have been following the Obama phenomenon,I was wanting to watch Bill Moyer,s interview with Obama's pastor Rev Wright. I cam across another interview with a black theologian, James H. Cone who wrote a book called the Cross and the Lynching Tree. Sometimes thousands of whites came to watch. Now with the possible election of Obama the noose is appearing in different areas. Human beings are capable of some atrocious things.

Please explain what you mean by that.

??? So are you implying that kids are spray-painting noose symbols on walls, or kids are fashioning homemade nooses and leaving them around the schoolyard? Either way, what does any of that have to do with Barak Obama?

I don't know if you can really connect the two. I think the fact that he is able to run and is such a front-running candidate shows that there ARE white people who feel him to be a good candidate for president. People need to think about this: if Obama wins, a lot of white people would have had to vote for him.

With regards to the subject of race issues in this country, I once put it this way. We killed Jim Crow, but now his ghost haunts us. It's illegal to discriminate openly based on race, gender, age, or sexual orientation in this country, but that doesn't mean everyone's mind has been changed with regards to these issues.

I watched an interview the other evening with Obama and he was asked, "If you lose the race will it be because of race?" <--- something along those lines.

His answer (paraphrasing): If I lose the race it will be that I didn't connect with the voters and ran a poor campaign.

Jon Stewart asked him if he were to win the election, would he flip the script and enslave all white people. Made me chuckle. I like Jon Stewart. I do not know Obama's response though. I heard about it on the radio.

I do believe this country is better prepared to accept a female president rather than one of African American heritage. Thanks, in part, to religious organizations promoting the idea people of color have a heavenly curse on them, they have been struggling for equality ever since.

I believe it is noteworthy Barack Obama has had a huge security detail accompanying him on his campaign from early on.

I notice in this Obama/Wright issue that McCain and Clinton had preachers who had some weird views. Rev Hagee believes the Great Whore represents “the Roman Church,” which, in his view, has thirsted for Jewish blood throughout history, from the Crusades to the Holocaust." Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, who blamed the attacks on America’s abortionists, feminists, gays and A.C.L.U. lawyers.
