How can one get smilies to work? Smilies are always off with no way to switch on.

Blame it on Darth Shades our board owner and board funkiller.
(If you paste a smilie url from a smilie website they will show up)

Shades thinks it makes the board look tacky. We had a trial a few months ago and people got carried away. I am sure if you do a search you will find the thread in which people had voted for smilies.

Dr. Shades has disabled the smilies on this board because he thinks they make the board look juvenile.
He really doesn't want us to use them here and really doesn't want to see them rolling all over the posts.
Even so, if you want a smilie, you'll have to smuggle it in on your own or fly it in under the radar as it were.
But don't tell him I told you, okay?

Dr. Shades has some fundamental objection to smilies that probably stemmed from some incident during his mission to Japan. Maybe it even involved the musical group Wink.
