waves of profound sadness- pet death

Our cat of 13 1/2 years. had to be euthanized Fri. At least once per day, I find myself having waves of profound sadness. Over the years, we've lost several pets to death, but this one is different.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that, nobody. We haven't seen our beloved outside cat in a week so I can empathize with your grief. He was a good and honorable mouser named John Black. I continue to call for him a number of times a day.

Awww...that's a long time to own a cat.
They really become members of the family when they have been with you that long.

His name was Bubba. He was white with blue eyes. One thing that would describe him is he loves his people. Kids in the neighborhood would go to pet other cats and when they weren't as laid back as Bubba, their parents would have to educate them that not every cat is like Bubba. Neighbor lady had cried when she left the previous day when she saw him and noticed he didn't look like he would be around much longer. Next to her Daddy and her blankie, Bubba was one of my daughter's three favorite and beloved things in the world. We went through a matter-of-fact discussion on his condition and expected outcome with the vet and then a detailed description of the injection, etc. Friday was a most difficult day.

Some pets have a way of getting to our hearts more than others. I have no idea how they do that but thankfully they do. I remember a few years back our family made the decision to euthanize a certain cat. I tell you, this cat for some reason had the ability to command the presence of every family member that day at the vets. Even Jersey Boy stood there and cried openly over her and the vet cried with us.
Thank goodness for such creatures such as your Bubba. They teach us things that no human possibly could.
