my current addiction

Post by _asbestosman »

With my partial inferiority complex and all, I was looking for ways to learn more English when I came across the following site.

http://freerice.com
That's General Leo. He could be my friend if he weren't my enemy.

I just wasted way to much time doing that, Abman, but what a lot of fun!

My daughters will love it, too, especially my oldest, Courtney, the cross-word puzzle enthusiast. Lots of new vocabulary words for her to learn there.

Thanks for the link!

Oh man - those are some tough words. I swear some of them are made up.

Knowledge of Greek and Latin roots is definitely your friend.

True that. I can't for the life of me get higher than vocabulary level 39.

Cool site abman.

I quit after 47. Seeing all those bowls of rice made me hungry for breakfast.

Damn lawyers and your fancy word knowledge...

Harrumph.

Out of curiosity (after getting 2500 grains) I looked to see how many grains were in a pound... approximately 29,000 was the number I saw most. Looks like I have a lot more playing to do.

Wow - that's a lot of grains per pound. My own selfish desires for a latte and english muffin left somebody with very little rice.

All words are made up, with some more recent and less widespread than others. Example:

gerrymander:
[Origin: 1812, Americanism; after E. Gerry (governor of Massachusetts, whose party redistricted the state in 1812) + (sala)mander, from the fancied resemblance of the map of Essex County, Mass., to this animal, after the redistricting]

I'm with Steuss hovering around 39. Skippy at 47? There's only 50 levels.
