I just watched this speech, and actually got a lump in my throat. It was a great speech. Is it just me, or did McCain at one point seem pissed off when some of the more unruly folks in his crowd booed Obama? Good on him.

And I noticed they played the theme music from the movie Crimson Tide after the end of the speech. Great movie, one of my favorites.

I felt the same as well. Very gracious in his peacemaking.

Nevertheless, I'm troubled that there are so many of my fellow citizens that would prefer the lean toward socialism.

Oh well. People somehow live and die happy in Sweden (a socialist country) too.

AMEN! We *all* are Americans and are looking "for a more perfect union." America can be great for ALL of us, no matter what color, religion, or belief.

I just saw his speech and I am moved. Obviously he is a great man. I can't disagree with anything he said, we Americans have to unite in this difficult world. Together and united we stand. I am an American, and proud to do what I can to make this a better, safer, happier, and more peaceful place to live.

So, was McCain running as both President AND again as senator, or did he give up his seat for the chance to run for Pres?

Senators sit for 6 years, and McCain happens to be in between election cycles for his own seat, so he just goes back to his day job in the Senate.

Joe Biden was actually running for his Senate seat as well as running for VP. He won his Senate election, but will obviously have to resign his seat so he can take office as the Veep.

I believe that U.S. Senator John McCain gave a Gracious and a Great Speech. I am very glad and am very happy, that I did get to support and to Vote for John McCain this Presidential General Election, even though he didn't get to win the U.S. Presidency. U.S. Senator John McCain has Greatly Served this Great Country of ours very Well.

Okay, I have to be a movie geek about the candidates' choices of music as they finished their speeches.

McCain chose "Crimson Tide", the story of a wily old military man who loves his country but is stick in the past and can't see the future, and is caught in a battle with an idealistic young black man. At the end of the film, the young black man wins, and the old soldier shows surprising grace in defeat as he walks away while that theme plays and we appreciate his patriotism and service, but are left with hope for a better future.

Obama chose "Remember the Titans", the story of an idealistic, charismatic black man whose message of hope brings people together.

Coincidence? Probably. Almost certainly in McCain's case. But it sure added a new level for me.

Despite my not liking either candidate, I have to admit that McCain's concession speech was amazing. If only all of the people in our country could be as graceful as that when having a dream slip by.

I was threatened with death tonight at work by a rabid McCain supporter. I had said absolutely nothing about anything to anyone about the elections or their results (since it's work for “F”'s sake, politics doesn't belong there). He tried brushing it off as "a private joke between me and XX", but when you're yelling at the top of your lungs that you're going to kill someone. . . it's not damned funny. This co-worker, is one who should have listened to McCain's speech.
