Drug test them all

May not be so funny to some
Thought most of you would get a chuckle here
Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me.
> I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit.
> In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine
> test with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is
> the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine
> test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check
> because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I
> have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on
> the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their
> butt, doing drugs, while I work. . !
I would add any alcohol or tobacco use. If they can afford booze and tobacco they don't need government tax money.
See you guys in a few weeks to a month or more. Am heading South now before the major league blizzard hits North Dakota and I get stranded for a few days. Will come back in a month after the snow is settled and deeper so I can snowmobile across the hills and lakes here. Nothing quite like a snowmobile going 90mph across a frozen lake and the surrounding hills. Really nice.
The nutty buddy loves the winter. I like it because I can go South to Iowa. Or, as it is described in Field of Dreams, heaven. A lot warmer than North Dakota any time of the year.

When I think of "south", I think of Arizona. Interesting that "south" to you is Iowa (which I would consider more north than south.)

You are asking the government to pay for millions of urine tests, and create another gigantic bureaucracy machine to administrate these tests, all for the sake of fairness. Sounds like a waste of your tax dollars to me.

Bring the verifiable results of your own test.

The OP is asking for fairness; the government should be more like private business. It isn't fair to make people on welfare pay for their own drug tests when employers cover it for people who apply for jobs.

If the government drug tested these folks and refused those who were addicts (while directing them to rehab), there'd be much less money going to the whinos I'm related to, and far more going to honest deserving people who are really having a hard time.
I completely agree with the OP...from experience. Drug test me and every other mofo who requests assistance...then give me and those honest folk like me what we deserve instead of wasting your time on the addicts and whinos.
But that will never happen. So I go back to work, no matter how difficult. I make more money that way anyway. Screw being given for a month what I could make part time in a week.
Yes, it's about fairness. Why should my harlot cousin be paid to lay on her back while I starve because of an illness I can't control? I'll die working.

The problem with that is our government would have to completely revamp or even do away with its current "war on drugs" philosophy and move from a "treat all addicts as criminals" program to a "treat addicts as people with a treatable disease and rehabilitate them" program. Most every attempt at doing this on the federal level ended with a GOP filibuster and sudden death. A few states have limited treatment, but it isn't nearly enough to solve the problem of drug addiction with the working and lower classes.
As much as they like to honk their horns about being such great capitalists, the GOP still has yet to figure out simple supply/demand economics in regards to the drug trade and addiction.

I could think of many things that would be a vastly better use of my tax dollars then spending it on drug testing for the poor. That being said, if we were to implement drug testing for those receiving benefits from social welfare programs, then the goal should be to treat the addict and not to punish them. After all, if you cut off the welfare mother with half a dozen kids to feed from assistance because she's addicted to crack you not just punishing her, you're also punishing her children who are innocent of anything other then being delt an exceptionally crappy hand in life.

This is one of the most vacuous posts I've seen since the whole Palin frenzy a few months ago.
This author's sophistication and intellect oozes from their words. Let's see - first it assumes that a urine analysis was requisite to employment for Americans. The author must work at Target, or maybe even the Olive Garden, because I haven't had to pee in a cup prior to employment since my first job at Magic Mountain. Countrywide Financial Corporation - who once employed over 40,000 Americans - never once asked anyone for piss.
The really repugnant part of this drivel is the author's veiled bigotry towards those who smoke, drink, or take drugs. Like those opposed to abortion under the guise of "Pro-Life" the author is merely projecting a bigotry towards those that the author does not approve of. Why does the author have a problem with someone "sitting on their butt, doing drugs" and seemingly no qualms with a person sitting on their butt eating Ho-Ho's. Because obesity is more socially acceptable than ingesting chemicals recreationally? There are more holes in this logic than
drug propagandists say are in my head.
Finally, He/She clearly has no idea how tax money is allocated.
If this person is really considered with wasted tax dollars in the name of drug use and worthlessness - they should mention the $49,631,441,768.00
and counting spent on the fatuous "Drug War."

Apply for a job and get their test. No welfare for the able-bodied who don't apply for a job.
