Here is an interesting letter to the editor I found this morning.
http://lacrossetribune.com/news/opinion ... 002e0.html
This letter is in response to Faith Blum’s letter published in Monday’s paper.
I have spent the past several years studying the LDS faith as a non-Mormon, and have come to moderate my approach to it, as a result. I agree with Faith that the LDS faith is in serious error, and that LDS culture seems to sneak up on the unaware. However, an abrasive and confrontational approach will do nothing but awaken their overactive persecution complex.
I have met many good non-Christians in my life, and do not believe that calling a faith “non-Christian” is productive. Neither do I call LDS beliefs diabolical, even though I know that LDS are deceived in their beliefs.
I prefer to not criticize any belief system that contributes to the well-being (emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and physical) of the individual. However, I can criticize the LDS faith. Glen Beck’s instability is only one example. Utah leads the nation in anti-depressant use, suicide rate, fraud by “friends” and acquaintances, among other statistics. Obviously, something is wrong in areas of the country that are Mormon-dominated, where the culture has had a chance to distill and concentrate during the past 160 years.
I would suggest that people take a more objective view of the LDS. Conversion cannot take place in an environment of hatred and bigotry, no matter how flawed a belief system might be.
Sounds like she has a pretty accurate attitude towards Beck and his cohorts. Inaccuracy about suicide rate, but only spurs people to look up data.
