The thread title implies the fact that she was raped was accepted and considered a punishable offense. Since this has happened in other nations, that is the natural reading. Instead, the court found that a rape didn't occur, but did find that she drank and engaged in sexually licentious behavior, which apparently is a punishable offense. That's awful, but not what the thread title suggests. Of course, the argument is that she really was raped and she, as the victim, was put on trial. It's hard to judge the merits of that case based on this article, but welcome to how rape is dealt with all over Earth.

So Dubai needs to modernize here and needs to be put under pressure to do so. Hopefully it happens quickly as economic freedoms lead civil freedoms. Given that it was only a few years ago that co-habitation was a legitimate defense in most of the US against rape, thus implying that women were legally the sexual property of their mates, I don't think we should go patting ourselves on the back about how advanced Western society has been regarding women.

The United States has a huge population of Christians who would gladly adopt laws that criminalize sexual behavior they deem immoral. I don't know why the assumption is that Christians would necessarily disagree with sentencing a woman to jail for being promiscuous. Some surely wouldn't.

Zimmerman didn't "stand his ground against a thug." He brought a gun to a fist fight against a minor who was just minding his own business and won. A kid he had been stalking no less.

Clearly you don't understand or appreciate Islamic sharia. This is not normal in all countries, but quite the norm in Islamic countries. This is because women don't have equal rights with men and neither do non-Muslims with Muslims. That's why the court did what it did.

And the title of the thread is the title of the article.

Muslims speaking out against injustice in their own countries, wherever they live, is the most effective means of bringing about change where needed. They're very unlikely to listen to "lecturing Westerners". Is it possible? This 11 year old girl, Nada Al-Ahdal, showed that it is. Although she's presumably speaking in Arabic, or a Yemeni dialect of Arabic, it's impossible to miss the tone of eloquence:
