While you were sleeping..

Post by _subgenius »

he Land and Water Conservation Fund died quietly on Sunday night amid a news cycle dominated by the FBI’s inquiry into allegations of sexual misconduct by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and the staggering death toll from an earthquake in Indonesia.

What you chose to quoted is not a good representation of what is going on. I assume you know enough to know as much, otherwise your OP would be hypocritical, so it begs the question as to why you chose to present it as you did.

Our local NPR station has featured the LWCF and its impending renewal deadline in the news occasionally for a few months now. Seems that subs needs to both pay attention to better news sources and realize that just because he’s late to the party doesn’t mean that everyone else is, too.

On top of that, he’s a bit off on the details:

ETA: perhaps subs sees this as some sort of #win for the Trump Administration, which would certainly illuminate how dysfunctional his reasoning is.

I guess subbie assumes this board serves as a stream of conscious outlet for what one is thinking. So if something doesn't show up here it's off the map.

What's not clear to me is subbies angle on the topic. Given his obvious anti-liberal view one is left unclear on if he views the fact it lapsed without formal renewal is meaningful or supports some other view he has. Is he celebrating and hopeful the efforts to overhaul or expand it fail? Who knows.

The fund had been in a febrile state since 2015, when House Natural Resources Chairman Rob Bishop, a Republican from Utah, allowed it to sunset at the end of its 50-year authorization. Congress eventually reached a deal for a three-year temporary authorization, but the extension ended September 30.

I can't imagine conservation being a desired priority for Republicans. I doubt it would be off the mark to suggest they might even consider giving the tax revenues back to the oil and gas corporations or else spending the money on a yuge wall along the southern border.

Its the opening statement of the article cited. As an OP it appropriately serves as an introduction to a topic. The criticism is found in the thread title and intends to accent that while an emotional and orchestrated tirade was underway there were actual events occurring that should have occupied the attention of certain posters....certain posters who posture in such a way that being "asleep" is the only reasonable excuse for their spending 45+ thread pages elsewhere.

Consider it this way, if I were a poster that believed the most important circumstance of life was the precarious and imminently dangerous condition of our natural environment, why would my focus seemingly be more emphasized on the superficial and fabricated scandal of a judicial nominee whose record clearly indicates qualification via countless decisions?

In other words, and not as a walking and chewing gum, how can a poster that believes survival is upon us be reasonably focused on tabloid issues? Its like trying to take a selfie while drowning.

That would be a poor guess....aim more towards the idea that there is an obviois value, or hierarchy, for what poster will post here and what they will engage here. So while oneis certainly diverse in their own priorities, a certain manifestation occurs on this board which reflects an avatar of sorts....and while that avatar may not have the depth and dimension of the more complicated poster's "in person" manifestation, it does require similar resolutions for integrity and definition.
For example, you insist there is an "angle".

It's better than that because even if you incorrectly assume the worst here, the appointment of Kavanaugh is actually far more significant for environmental regulation as the Supreme Court is likely to curb the Federal government's capacity to engage in environmental regulation now that they have a 3-4 far right judges and 1-2 mainline conservative judges on the bench. Conservatives have had a 5-4 majority for about 40 years now, but this is a much more conservative balance that has a significant chance of rolling back environmental regulations by decree. Even if you care about the specific issue of environmental regulation, the confirmation of Kavanaugh is by far the bigger story in its implications.

Of course, paying attention to one story and talking about it doesn't preclude an awareness of the other as implied, but you get the idea.

It seems I nailed your thought and confirmed my suspicion you weren't following the fate of the fund so much as seeing a venue where you might try to needle posters here about their focus. Just another hair fire claim and whatall you like to make everything that you disagree with, etc.

I was genuinely curious if you yourself actually cared about either seeing the fund abandoned or seeing it reformed and renewed. Since you showed in your two posts above that your concern is with posters on MDB and not the substance of what was occurring in congress, I'll let the hypocrisy of your OP fly over your head as so many other things do. You might look into air traffic control given the state of things, though.

Gee what gave it away? I so carefully hid the intention in the thread title.....

honestly, i was unable to discern your point here....."whatall"?

Then you should have asked.

exactly where was the hypocrisy here?

was the thread title unresolved with my OP quote and statement of "At least you're informed about and on top of the issues that are truly important to you."
