The President is making an announcement at 4:15 EDT about asylum. I read through the asylum statute, and saw that if the Attorney General issued a finding that asylum seekers reasonably pose a threat to national security, the president can declare them ineligible for asylum. I wonder if we’re going to hear that Sessions has done just that. It sure would fit with that Willie Horton on steroids ad that the President tweeted today.

I just can't imagine the amount of fear one must live in for that ad to be effective. The ad in question if you happened to miss it.

Afraid of losing an election but don't have enough time to start a war on foreign soil? Just drum up an "invasion" at your own border I guess.

What is the status of the war on opioids?
What is the status on environmental issues?
What is the status on bringing back manufacturing jobs?
What is the status on keeping our country safe?
What is the status of ISIS--did we bomb the crap out of them into extinction?

What is the status of any damn thing he promised to do except for constantly raising hell and chaos about immigration and the damn damned wall?

If we don't know the answers to those questions regarding other issues (I sure don't) then I say this is all theatrics intended to draw attention away from the fact that he hasn't been successful in any area including immigration reform, so he's constantly manufacturing crisis in the hopes that we're all on high alert that we don't notice it.

Some of what he said made actual sense. I'll leave it to others to sort through it for now.

It was a stunt. It was carried live because the White House said the President would be announcing new policies. He didn’t. He basically gave the immigration portion of the campaign speech he’s been giving every day. They’re finalizing new policies that will be announced, he said, next week. We’ll see.

He did say that catch and release would be replaced with catch and hold. Oh, and rocks will be treated as guns, so if anyone throws one, they’ll be shot.

He also lied through his teeth throughout the speech, but I’ll leave that to the fact checkers.
